Brettex Site Services backed Rhys Yates aims for another class win at this weekend’s Woodpecker Stages.

Chesterfield rally ace Rhys Yates will aim to further enhance his lead in the REIS- Ravenol BTRDA Silver Star category this Saturday as he heads to the seventh round of the series, The Eventsigns Woodpecker Stages Rally. Having dominated the B10 class throughout his inaugural full rallying season, Yates now leads the two wheel drive category outright and will contest the Ludlow based event with one eye on the BTRDA and MSA English Championship title.

The 23 year old has had an impressive debut year in the BTRDA National gravel series and tops the leader board in a myriad of category’s as the season heads towards the closing three rounds. His transition to rallying from his years as a British Junior Moto X rider has proved a fruitful one and the Brettex Site Services backed Fiesta pilot will now look to consolidate his grip on the top of the points table.

Co-driven for this event by Tom Woodburn who re-joins him after the last round in Wales, Yates has not relaxed during the summer break and has worked hard to stay match fit for the upcoming Shropshire event.  Having tested the Fiesta R2 earlier in August, Yates is keen to bag as much seat-time as possible to ensure he can have a “quick of out the box” approach from the very first stage.

“Im really enjoying driving the Brettex Fiesta this year and as the season progresses, I’m feeling more and more confident in the car” says Yates. “Heading so many championships is a real confidence boost and I still feel there is still more to come from the car and from me yet.  The last few rounds of the championship should be a great battle but I need to remain focused to ensure we are still at the top at the end of the season”.

Like many events this season, Yates has not tackled any of the stages used on the event so will be on the back foot compared to his rivals in the series. “I’ve heard a lot about the Radnor and Haye Park stages on this event which can be really tricky. I will be certainly working hard to get our route notes as good as we can before the rally as they will certainly need to be right if you are to emerge from those forests unscathed”.

The Eventsigns Woodpecker Stages Rally offers over 42 competitive stage miles from the event base of Ludlow Racecourse in Shropshire. Over 180 crews will start the 5th September event which runs for the 43rd time this year.

Yates is supported by Brettex Site Services, Pirelli and PIAA.
