The West Wales Rally Spares R.A.C. Rally Championship reaches its seventh and final round on this weekend’s Trackrod Rally (25/26 September).WWRS15 pre-Trackrod

The championship, organised by the Roger Albert Clark Rally Motor Club, has run in parallel to the Mintex MSA British Historic Rally Championship and has been aimed at clubmen historic crews as well as those running in the Open Category. With containing costs for clubmen as a prime aim, the championship runs to a six-tyre rule on all events.

The championship situation is clear as Phil Burton and Mal Capstick from the Open Category are already confirmed as 2015 champions in their Ford Escort Mk2. The good news for spectators this weekend is that Burton is still doing the rally and will be his usual spectacular self in his very potent Escort Mk2. Barry Stevenson-Wheeler and John Pickavance have been constant challengers and will lead the assault on Burton again this time around.

James Potter and Bob Duck head the historic R.A.C. crews in their Escort Mk2 and will go up against locals Gary Cooper/Jon Riley (Sunbeam Lotus) in Category 3. Cooper has had a trying time so far with the Sunbeam, including a light roll on the DMACK Carlisle Stages in June, but is due a good result soon, while Potter is on target to be the top historic finisher in the final championship standings.

Other historic cars chasing R.A.C. points will include the Datsun 240Z of Jeremy Easson, the Porsche 911 of local ace Tim Mason and Graham Wild, the Ford Escort Mk2 of brothers Leigh and Chris Armstrong and the Escort Mk1 of Aziz Tejpar/Alister Crook. In the 1600cc class are the Ford Escorts of Malcolm Bayliss/Siobhan Pugh and Stuart and Linda Cariss.

The Trackrod Rally is based in Pickering with scrutineering on Friday afternoon followed by the rally start at 7pm and two special stages. The rally resumes at 8am on Saturday and the crews will return to Pickering at around 1.30pm.
