silverstone24h16 (286)An early season epic on our 1st visit to Silverstone in 2016. We have seen this race in its Britcar incarnations but now under the governance of Creventic the Silverstone 24H looks to have a more stable, long term footing. With touring cars only and no GT’s the noise issue is addressed, for now, and close racing throughout the field guaranteed. In the final reckoning Richard Roberts/Charles Lamb/Martin Short/Richard Neary in the SP Touring class Team ABBA with Rollcentre Racing BMW M3 V8 took the victory by 3 laps. They started from the back of the grid after failing to set a time in qualifying but soon got up in to the top 6 overall as the first 6 hours of racing saw close battles.

It wasn’t until the 19th hour that they took the lead with the demise of the Team Bleekemolen Seat Leon Cup Racer of Dennis de Boorst/Pim van Riet/Melvin de Groot/Sebastiaan Bleekemolen. 2nd overall, after 24 hours, were Bert de Heus/Ivo Breukers/Rik Breukers in the Red Camel-Jordans.nl Seat Leon Cup Racer which we saw off in the gravel at Vale shortly after the rain started, in the 5th hour of racing. They lost 2-3 laps with that incident and ended up just 3 laps behind overall but took the TCR class victory. Completing the podium were Ramzi Moutran/Nabil Moutran/Sami Noutran/Phil Quaife in the Memac Ogilvy Duel Racing Seat Leon Cup Racer.

In the the classes, not covered by the top 3 teams overall, the A3 class went to Guillame Roman/Thierry Blaise/Stéphane Ventaja/Bradley Philpot/Sarah Bovy in the Team Altran Peugeot 208 GTi who were 4th overall. Class D1 winners and 5th overall were Jan de Vocht/Johan van Loo/Wim Meulders/Thomas Piessens/Erik Crabbe in the Recy Racing Team BMW 120D. 6th overall and Cup1 class winners were Mark Poole/Richard Abra/Timur Sardarov/Mark Lemmer in the JJ Motorsport BMW M235i Racing Cup. The final class winners saw the narrowest margin of victory as the top two class A2 cars were separated by less than a second after 24 hours. Victorious were Wayne Shen/Francis Tija/John Shen in the Modena Motorsports Renault Clio Cup III.
