Kumho Nurburgring16Kumho-shod cars achieved no less than two class wins and two third places in the 44th running of the ADAC Nürburgring 24 Race, May 28/29. This year’s event was even more gruelling than usual, and will be remembered for a sensational four-way battle for outright victory by the leading Mercedes-Benz AMG GT3s, and the horrendous weather conditions that caused the demise of numerous entries and the race to be halted by rain, hail and snow.

The rain began 30 minutes into the marathon event, and by the 50 minute mark hail and snow were in evidence at the Aremberg and Fuchsröhre sections, causing dozens of the 150-strong entry to spin-out or crash and the race to be red flagged and delayed for a record three hours. Such chaos makes the Kumho results all the more impressive, with the Schmickler Performance BMW 330i of Egbert, Rönnefarth and Hollerweger winning class V5 and finishing 48th overall, and the Race-House Motorsport BMW M235i of Dag von Garrel, Carsten Ohlinger and British banker Meyrick Cox annexing the V3T class in fine form and coming home in 97th place. The cars finishing 3rd in classes V2T and AT were also equipped with Kumho tyres.

Commenting on these impressive Kumho results, the company’s European Motorsport Manager, Manfred Theisen, said: “Our latest ECSTA tyres impressed during the challenging weather of qualifying, and even more so in the extraordinary conditions that caused the downfall of so many cars in this unforgettable race. My congratulations to all our drivers – well done!”
