Citroen Testing16iCitroën Racing chose the roads of Finland for the third development test session of its 2017 World Rally Car. Running at maximum speed on the famous jumps, Kris Meeke and Craig Breen were able to test the car’s aerodynamic performance.

With its large, fast and rolling roads, Finland is among world rallying’s most revered venues. Due to the high speeds and the difficulty to “read” the road, it is one of the toughest terrains to grasp, with the drivers needing to concentrate on the jump approaches that send the cars flying into the air. Yvan Muller’s car was the best performing Citroën C-Elysée, finishing third in the opening race at the rain-affected FIA WTCC races at Moscow Raceway.  Despite a winless weekend, Citroën and José María López have extended their respective leads in the Manufacturers’ and Drivers’ World Championships.

Safari guide and wildlife photographer Geoff Mayes and Scottish born Jamie Mactavish successfully guided their SPV class V8 rally raid car to a top twenty overall position and third in class on the just finished KCB Safari Rally.

This years event saw crews face two and a half challenging days in the Great Rift Valley over terrain more suited to a Dakar event than a flat out motor rally. Attrition was high as cars succumbed to rocks, ruts, dust and even encounters with wild animals but through it all the Landrover continued. Mayes and Mactavish did have their own dramas, an unmarked ditch in the organisers notes saw the raid car flung into the trees at high speed, emerging with body damage but only minimal time loss. The Association of Scottish Motoring Writers has awarded this year’s Ford-sponsored Jim Clark Memorial Award to the Bo’ness Hill Climb Revival.

Bill Drysdale and Kenny Baird, who collected the trophy, represent the committee that helped to re-establish the original track for competition use for the Bo’ness Hill Climb Revival, which is now in its ninth year. Read More »

Carlisle Stages Henry16Irish crew Desi Henry and Liam Moynihan scored an emphatic victory on the DMACK Carlisle Stages (Saturday 11 June) after a superb field of cars battled over five special stages in the Newcastleton region of Kielder forest.

The rally, organised by the Roger Albert Clark Rally Motor Club, was a round of the Ravenol BTRDA Rally Series, the MSA English Rally Championship, the BTRDA Rally Challenge, the S G Petch Association of North East and Cumbria Car Clubs Stage Rally Championship, the Motoscope Northern Historic Rally Championship and the Association of Northern Car Clubs Forest Challenge.
