Rhys Yates ScottishBrettex Site Services backed rally driver Rhys Yates made the trip to Scotland last weekend to contest round four of the MSA British Rally Championship, but failed to finish the Dumfries event after ending his rally in one of the events vast ditches.  Taking a brand new Evolution version of the Fiesta R5 to the event, Yates was just settling into the new machine when he slid off the forest road and into retirement. WorldRX16 pre-HoljesA record-breaking number of cars will compete at the sixth round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship presented by Monster Energy which takes place in Holjes in Sweden this weekend (1-3 July).  A total of 111 cars across five different classes have entered Volkswagen Rallycross of Sweden including 47 Supercars (19 World RX entries; 28 Euro RX entries), 21 TouringCars, 25 Super1600 cars and a further 18 entries in the supporting RX Lites. Following the runaway success of its entry-level, one-make ‘Academy’ Series for Austin A30/35 cars, the HRDC will follow up this innovative concept in 2017, with a ‘Senior’ Series for historic Jaguar Touring Cars, embracing all saloon models of the type which were raced in period from 1950 to 1966.

Julius Thurgood, Race Director and founder of the Historic Racing Drivers Club, is upbeat about the new concept: “From the very beginning of my plans to create an entry-level series into historic racing, I knew that there had to be a logical path to follow on from the HRDC ‘Academy’ that would be aspirational to both those drivers who were graduating through this grass-roots series and to those already experienced competitors who were seeking to race in a high-end but fair-play ‘Senior Series’.
