Blair Brown pre-Ulster16Kinross junior rally driver Blair Brown who celebrates his 21st Birthday on Monday (15th) has had to put celebrations on hold as he heads to Derry / Londonderry for the penultimate round of the DMACK Junior British Rally Championship, the John Mulholland Motors Ulster Rally to be held on the 19th and 20th August.

With Richard Simmonds from Duns in his regular co-driver’s position, the Scottish duo will be looking for a top 5 finish on the technical tarmac stages. Playing their Joker card at the event double points are up for grabs so a good result is vital.

Blair said “This will be our first time competing at the Ulster Rally and we are really looking forward to it. Tarmac seems to be our faster surface in comparison to gravel. I think it’s down to the fact that the rallies are longer so you have more scope to learn than you do on the short gravel stages. Our aim is a solid finish as it’s vital we gain as much experience as possible for a win here next year when we should be fighting for the championship.”

The team heads to Ireland on Wednesday for a day’s reconnaissance on Thursday. Richard commented “A good concentrated recce will be important for us to get the notes right. We’ve struggled to get a good rhythm and pace at times this year but with only two more rounds of the championship we’ll definitely be giving this one a good go.”

The event begins at 13.00 on Friday from Derry/Londonderry town centre and, following an overnight halt, will re-start at 08.00 on Saturday morning. After completing a total of 16 stages and 143 competitive miles over both days.
