VW Sven SmeetsVolkswagen Motorsport has undergone a restructuring at management level: Sven Smeets (44) will take over as Volkswagen Motorsport Director on 01 September 2016. He succeeds Jost Capito (57), who is leaving the company to pursue a new professional challenge. Lukasz Urban (34) also takes over as Commercial Managing Director from Kirsten Zimmermann (44), who moves into a new management role at Volkswagen AG on 01 September 2016. At the same time, François-Xavier Demaison (47) as Technical Director and Dr. Donatus Wichelhaus (54) as Director of Engine Development move up into the Management Board of Volkswagen Motorsport. The FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) returns to action in Japan at the Twin Ring Motegi race track. For José María López and Yvan Muller, the aim will be – as ever– to win for the Citroën Total team. A successful weekend in the land of the rising sun could also enable Citroën and Pechito López to secure world titles for the third year running.   pic

After starting the season in Europe and then making the long trip to Argentina in early August, the FIA WTCC now embarks on a three-stop tour of Asia, beginning in Japan. Round nine will be held this weekend at the Twin Ring Motegi circuit, 150km to the north of Tokyo.

A championship venue for the first time in 2015, the 4.801km track has relatively low average and maximum speeds. The many acceleration and braking zones tend to be especially demanding on the brakes, but they also provide plenty of overtaking opportunities. Read More »

BHRC Red Dragon16dThe TV coverage of the sixth round of the Mintex MSA British Historic Rally Championship, the Red Dragon Rally, will first be screened on Friday 2 September at 9.35pm on Motors TV.

Filming and TV production for the 2016 BHRC is being handled by the team at Special Stage and the championship will enjoy dedicated 60-minute programmes on Motors TV. Omologato Ecurie Ecosse AThe long-established racing team’s livery has appeared on some of the most famous cars in the history of motorsport, and is now on the official Omologato Écurie Ecosse Chronograph.

The Écurie Ecosse team was founded by F1 driver turned businessman David Murray in 1951, and enjoyed fantastic success despite operating on a modest budget. Despite its relatively humble beginnings, the team has seen some of the most famous drivers in the history of motorsport pass through its ranks. The likes of Jackie Stewart, Jim Clark and double Le Mans champion Ron Flockhart all drove for Écurie Ecosse throughout the years.
