woodpecker16 (118)Fiesta ST Trophy star Sam Bilham will head to this weekend’s Rally Yorkshire with his sights firmly set on scoring his best result of the year as the BTRDA Rally Series draws to a close.

After eight hard-fought rounds across the UK, the popular championship concludes in the Dalby forests on Saturday and the Reis Motorsport Insurance backed ace will bid to improve on his season best second in the series and will be joined by co-driver James Whittaker for the event.

The 19 year old Bingley resident has enjoyed a one hundred per cent finishing record in his first year behind the wheel of the Fiesta but will look to his home event to improve on his Carlisle Rally runner up spot. Bilham has consistently been a regular visitor to the podium this season but a win in the championship has eluded him so far in 2016, a statistic he would like to change.

“Our pace has been improving with each round we have contested this year and hopefully I can finally get a series win at my home event in Yorkshire” says Bilham.  “We have had to learn the car whilst competing on the rallies as we haven’t had the budget to go testing as often as we would have liked. That certainly has held us back this year but I really do feel at home in the Fiesta now and it will be a good event to try and up our pace”.

Bilham heads to the final round of the BTRDA series in a relaxed mood and believes this could be the key to success.  “It’s really nice to be competing on Rally Yorkshire with no real pressure and just being able to maybe try things we wouldn’t normally do. Sometimes that works and I guess sometimes it doesn’t but I’ve always gone well in the Yorkshire forests and I really do enjoy the stages. They certainly don’t suit everyone’s style as they are so quick, it’s really a case of ‘fortune favours the brave’ in there.  Hopefully that combination will mean it will finally all come together so we can really end the season on a high.”

Trackrod Rally Yorkshire takes place on Saturday 1st October and consists of over 40 miles in the Dalby and Staindale forests.
