Kumho has never shied away from exposing its retailers to the virtues of its tyres for road, off-road and competition use, but this year stepped up a gear courtesy of a multi-disciplined experience event held over the three days of October 3-5 at Silverstone, ‘The Home of British Motor Racing’.kumho-silverstone16f

Invited by Kumho Tyre UK and its national distributor Micheldever Tyre Services, some 150 members of their respective Performance Centre networks of independent Kumho retailers were given the opportunity to gain first-hand experience of a cross-section of the manufacturer’s latest products; the general consensus of opinion being that it was the best such event Kumho has run to date.

A packed day of activity

After a welcome breakfast, the delegates received a comprehensive presentation on Kumho and its products before being split into teams and enjoying an educational mix of driving and passenger rides in a suitably enticing selection of vehicles. A second round of such disciplines followed a break for lunch. Designed as an F1 test track, Silverstone’s exacting Stowe Circuit was the main centre of action, where delegates were able to sample:

– Lamborghini Gallardos and Audi R8s shod with the company’s optimum supercar road product, the recently-launched ECSTA PS91
– A quartet of Fiat 500 Abarths equipped with some specially produced examples of the soon-to-be-introduced high-performance ECSTA PS71, that’s positioned to supersede the company’s proven ECSTA Le Sport KU39
– Alfa Romeo 4Cs fitted with the much-praised high-performance replacement for the ECSTA KH31, the ECSTA HS51

This track was also the scene of rapid passenger rides in a pair of ultra-quick Ariel Atoms, which clung doggedly to the tarmac courtesy of Kumho’s legendary street-legal track day tyre, the V70A.

kumho-silverstone16dKumho’s popularity in the UK market arguably owes as much to its stalwart range of 4×4 tyres as its high-performance road ones, and the Silverstone attendees were also given the chance to test the company’s very latest mud terrain offering – the Road Venture MT51; not to mention get behind the wheel of a Land Rover Defender, still most people’s favourite 4×4! Last but not least, for those that like to view their country through the side windows, there were speedy passenger laps aboard a Kumho R900-equipped Group N Subaru gravel rally car.

Spurs legends

The many football fans among the delegates had the rare bonus of rubbing shoulders with Tottenham Hotspur legends Ossie Ardiles, Ledley King, Micky Hazard and Clive Allen who not only tried their hand at the wheel but were also invited to recall a few stories from their long careers with the Club – their involvement resulted from Kumho’s Official Tyre partnership with the top Premier League team.

kumho-silverstone16bIn summary, Kumho UK’s Marketing Director John Thrupp said: “This was a very rewarding event that allowed a good cross-section of our dealer networks to obtain invaluable personal experience of our exciting new products. The feedback has been very positive all round, and I’m confident the attendees will now be able to promote our tyres with greatly increased knowledge and confidence.”
