omologato-attwoodOmologato is proud to announce racing legend Richard Attwood as brand ambassador. The deal will see the much-revered racer represent Omologato at future motorsport events in the UK.

The announcement coincides with the recent release of a new chronograph from Omologato, inspired by the famed Porsche Salzburg 917 Attwood drove to victory alongside Hans Herrmann at Le Mans in 1970.

The British driver shot to fame when he and the Porsche team overcame the odds at Le Mans to claim a historic victory 46 years ago. Of the 17 917s entered into Le Mans that year, only two made it to the finish line, the other being the Martini Racing Team driven by Gerard Larrousse and Willi Kauhsen which finished second behind Attwood and Herrmann in the number 23 Porsche Salzburg. Since Porsche secured its first victory in 1970, the German manufacturer has achieved a record total of 16 overall Le Mans titles to date.

The Porsche Salzburg is one of the most recognised race cars having starred in the Steve McQueen epic Le Mans. Richard Attwood was drafted in on set to help McQueen with driving the 4.5-litre 12-cylinder race icon.

The Porsche Salzburg car has always been known for its distinctive red and white livery, something which resonates with the design of Omologato’s The Salzburg timepiece. The chronograph depicts the number 23 on the face with the famous red and white colour scheme and incorporates a black Italian grain leather strap with Guards Red stitching. Buyers of The Salzburg watch from Omologato, due to be ready for delivery in January 2017, will also receive a hand-signed booklet by Richard Attwood for that ultimate collector’s item. Furthermore buyers of this limited edition watch will also benefit from complimentary invitations to future Omologato customer events where Richard Attwood will attend.

Richard Attwood is one of those names and bestows the very essence of British doggedness and determination whilst the Porsche 917 he drove through the rain and misery at Le Mans in 1970 has a unique and exciting story to tell. The Salzburg watch is designed to allow people to engage in the car’s history and feel a part of Richard’s achievements. It is fantastic to have Richard as a brand ambassador for Omologato. This announcement culminates a fantastic and successful year for Omologato!”

Le Mans winner Richard Attwood said: “I am delighted to become a brand ambassador for Omologato watches. It is an honour to partner with a company which offers motor racing fans and watch enthusiasts the opportunity to share in the history of such important moments of motorsport.

In 1970, I was privileged to drive for Porsche and racing against the very best in motorsport. We overcame the odds to take a first victory and create a unified team which can still be seen to this day. The Salzburg has some truly enchanting feature which encapsulates the core elements of the 917. I am looking forward to sharing my stories and meeting people at Omologato-hosted events in the future.”
