matteo-reaches-one-thousandThis weekend sees the first off road rally raid of 2017 taking place in the Kongoni region of Naivasha. The event headquarters will be the Ranch House Bistro on Moi South Lake Road which has combined with Chui Lodge and Kiangazi House to support a tree planting initiative to help off-set the carbon footprint from the motorsport event.

The 2017 Kenyan Rally Raid Championship sees the debut of a number of new vehicles, all seeking to take on the might of the Rally Raid legends, such as Ian Duncan and Gray Cullen. As such the opening round is expected to be full of action when the first vehicle sets off this Saturday. This weekends event is hosted by The Ranch House Bistro Restaurant on the shores of Olodien Lake on Moi South Lake Road in Naivasha. And with support from Chui Lodge and Kiangazi House, the managers have teamed up with 7 year old Matteo Di Cangio who has set his sights on planting over 2000 trees before the end of 2017.

Young Matteo has already planted more than a thousand trees since he began his mission in November 2016. For this Rally Raid the organisers, officials and competing crews will be planting trees in selected areas along the Moi South Lake Road and thanks to Chardust Ltd nearly 500 Yellow Fever Acacia Trees have been set aside for the project. These indigenous trees are perfect for this wildlife rich area as, once they are established, they will provide food for the healthy population of giraffes on the Oserengoni Wildlife Sanctuary, as well as providing shaded refuge for the large resident leopard population!

Rally Raid 1 will start from The Ranch House Bistro at approximately 12 noon on Saturday 04 March and will end back at the Bistro on Sunday at around 2pm. The competitors will cover almost 200 kilometres of competitive action over the two days! The event is open to motor bikes, quads, buggies and off road 4×4’s.
