Ahead of the first shipments of the new timepiece, Derek Bell took ownership of his own watch before sitting down and taking part in an exclusive quick-fire question and answer session with Shami. The Brit answered a host of questions included whether he preferred Brands Hatch or Silverstone, Le Mans or Daytona and Lewis Hamilton or Nico Rosberg amongst others. The social media event can be viewed across the Omologato social media platforms.
He has also signed two limited edition jackets which will be won by two lucky Derek Bell 500 Omologato owners. The jackets have been created alongside a new watch that pays homage to one of motorsport’s most recognisable talents. The Derek Bell 500 chronograph celebrates Bell’s remarkable glory at the Le Mans 24 Hours and honours the Brit’s 1975 victory behind the wheel of the iconic Gulf Mirage GR8.
In order to have the chance to win one of the two jackets signed by Derek Bell, racing fans will need to purchase the all-new Derek Bell 500 timepiece from Omologato. All existing purchases will automatically be entered into the exclusive draw.
After his triumph in 1975, Bell went on to win the Le Mans 24 Hours again in 1981, 1982, 1986 and 1987 – making him the most successful Brit to compete in the race to date. It was his inaugural victory which is arguably the most famous of them all, having spawned one of the best racing partnerships of all time between Bell and Belgian Jacky Ickx. The pair worked together on Bell’s next two victories in the early eighties before Ickx’s final outing in 1985.
With a leather strap featuring orange and light blue stitching and a light blue strip running through the 45.5mm face, the famous image of the GR8 is captured perfectly by the Derek Bell 500.
The Derek Bell 500 watch brings a desirable level of precision, reliability and accuracy that only comes with the very best watches. The watch is available now and will be shipped for delivery next month.
We like to offer motorsport fans the best opportunity to feel close to the action and the stories from the circuits. Derek Bell’s achievements are remarkable. To win the most demanding endurance race of them all five times is something special. It has been such a pleasure to design and develop a watch with a true British racing icon and a friend of Omologato.”
