FIA Formula 3 European Championship

Norris and Habsburg win at Spa-Francorchamps
Lando Norris (GB) and Ferdinand Habsburg (A) made their mark on the sixth race weekend of the FIA Formula 3 European Championship. Norris won race one and three on the iconic Grand Prix circuit at Spa-Francorchamps (B), while Habsburg was victorious in race two.

Norris, at the wheel of a Dallara F317 powered by a Volkswagen engine, took the lead in an eventful start to the opening race, and never looked back. He crossed the finish line first, ahead of Nikita Mazepin (RUS/Mercedes-Benz) and Maximilian Günther (D/Mercedes-Benz). Norris was forced to retire from race two, following a collision in the first corner. Habsburg, who started from eighth on the grid, took over as the top Volkswagen driver in the field. The Austrian scythed his way through the field and was soon closing in on the leading group, consisting of Günther, Callum Ilot (GB/Mercedes-Benz), Jake Hughes (GB/Mercedes-Benz) and Jehan Duravala (IND/Volkswagen). He overtook one car after another, before ultimately passing the leader Günther to claim his first win of the season. Eriksson also overtook Günther to finish an impressive second behind Habsburg.

Lando Norris bounced back in style in Saturday’s final race. Having been relegated from pole position to fourth on the grid, following a penalty resulting from the collision in race two, the Volkswagen driver wasted little time in climbing into second place. Running second after a safety car phase, Norris overtook China’s Guanyu Zhou (Mercedes-Benz) at the restart and went on to clinch another victory. Norris has made up more ground in the overall championship on the back of this weekend’s two victories: he climbed from third to second and, with 248 points to his name, is now sandwiched between championship leader Günther (266) and third-placed Eriksson (240).
