This weekends Pendragon Stages Rally on Warcop ranges just off the A66 on Sunday 27th August is organised by Kirkby Londsdale Motor Club and has attracted 88 cars with another quality entry, 17 of those are STRC regulars and by my account will be the deciding event of the championship, it’s looking like either Gareth White in the Peugeot or Alan Kirkaldy in the Mark 2 Escort will come away from this weekends event clinching the title.

Having said that it will be down to the number crunchers to work out the finer details of dropped scores and class points to finalise the decision.

With Ian Paterson from Dumfries making the short trip south he will be having a rare old battle with Gordon Morrison both in Subaru’s over the tricky venue,Taylor Gibb is also hoping to maximise his championship points by keeping it neat and tidy.Colin Gemmel navigated by Derek Keir are now starting to get to grips with the Mark 2 Escort after a couple of test events it looks like this car is going to be a force to be reckoned with next season.

Brian Watson makes the long jaunt from Stonehaven in his Mitsubishi Evo while STRC regular Ian Forgan brings the gorgeous Hyundai Accent WRC to the party. Championship sponsor Tom Blackwood has finally got the Stunning yellow Mark 2 Escort back from the repair shop after the recent shunt at RAF Leuchers back in June and said that it’s looking better than it ever did and hopes to keep it that way!!

Borders boy and championship leader Gareth White is focused on a finish thus claiming maximum points to help his championship cause and Ross Auld is raring to go after troubles at the recent Solway and Tyneside double header but is confident the Escort is now ready to set the pace again in his class.

There will be no Kenny Moore unfortunately as he totalled the pristine Avenger at the Solway and is still stripping the car to see just how badly damaged the shell is. Ross McCallum is making a welcome return to Warcop in the very well prepared MG Maestro and Young Jamie Miller is yet again allowed out for the weekend with the Class 1 Nova who is out to prove a point with Innes Mochrie in the MG Metro, both of these guys have been battling it out together since they were youngsters, some say not much growing up has happened over the last 25 years ,and they are still at it !!

Greg Turner in the lovely looking Turner Autos and Neilson Products sponsored Peugeot 206 is looking forward to the weekend and again with this event on Pacenotes is taking all the experience he can get to make an attack on the championship next season. After a pretty heavy shunt at the Tyneside, Joe Pringle has managed to repair the sorry looking Corsa back to its former glory and with a few last minute jobs to do is happy with the hard work the team have put it every night since the crash.

Marcus Tinsley and Rachael Clark have also had to get a few issues resolved with the car and hope to keep the class battles alive.Allan Watt has already got his Citroen Saxo ready to go and take on class 2, with this being Allan’s first year in the championship he is thoroughly enjoying himself and looking forward to next year already !!!

Last to mention but by no means least is Robert Cumming and Robert Irvine in the Vauxhall Astra, on the back of a respectable finish at the Solway the pair are ” buzzing” for the weekend, Robert is also the Editor of Scottish Rally Scene magazine and has said he will have the latest copies of the Mag with him at the event, just catch up with him in the service area.

Two crews missing from the entry are brothers John and Robert Marshall and we are unsure at this time why they are not attending, quite possibly work commitments are getting in the way this weekend.

With the Beatsons Mull Rally cancelled in 2017 this will only leave the Kingdom Stages at Crail Airfield as season closer in November.

We at DCC and the STRC would like to remind everybody to ensure they have sunstrips and door stickers on to be allocated points as without these you could have the points removed.

Also the team would like to wish everybody a safe event and look forward to hearing your exploits from the weekend.
