The 2018 Rally North Wales was the first event to run to the new Rally2 format and it proved a success. With the BHRC and 2WD running through the stages first it proved to be a battle between the Ford Escort MkII’s. On the first stage though Ieuan Rowlands & Emyr Hall were fastest in the Avenger but retirement on stage 2 saw the normal Escort MkII order restored with Nick Elliott taking over the lead, despite Ryan Barrett going fastest through stage 2. Elliott, co-driven by Dave Price, was then fastest on stage 3 to take a 13 second lead in to service. Osian Pryce & Dale Furniss were up to 2nd ahead of Ryan Barrett & Paul McCann as he got to grips with RWD machinery.

After service Elliott was fastest through the re-run of Dyfi West but he almsot caught Pryce by the end of the stage as the Welshman dropped a minute thanks to a puncture. Worse was to hit Ryan Barrett as he was passed by his brother Paul in the stage as he eventually retired after the stage. Martin McCormack & Phil Clarke were up to 2nd overall, some 45 seconds behind Elliott. Paul Barrett, co-driven by Dai Roberts, was joint 3rd with Steve Bennett & Osian Owen. Paul Barrett was then fastest through the final two stages to secure 3rd overall and get within 2 seconds of McCormack for 2nd overall. Elliott meanwhile took victory by 41 seconds to start his 2018 BHRC campaign perfectly.

Pryce recovered to 4th overall, with Bennett 5th. John Rowlands & Glenn Latham (Escort MkII) were the first modern 2WD home, in sixth overall. In the other BHRC categories Adam Milner & Roy Jarvis (Escort MkI) were the first category 2 crew home after a superb drive on unfamiliar stages. Bob Bean & Mile Cartwright (Lotus Cortina) were the first category 1 crew home ahead of a boosted field thanks to the Rally2 format. First FWD crew home were Alun Roberts & Aled Edwards (Ka), 5th in the modern event and 15th overall. Finally in the 4WD rally, which ran after the Rally2 event, Dylan Davies & Llion Williams (Impreza) took a convincing win by over a minute and a half.
