Reigning MSA Junior Rallycross champion Tom Llewellin followed up his podium at the opening Tom Llewellinround of the Toyo Tires MSA British Rallycross Championship at Silverstone with more important points in round two at Lydden Hill in Kent although it wasn’t the result that he was hoping for.

The 16 year old from Haverfordwest in Pembrokeshire was again contesting the Swift Sport Championship for Peter Gwynne Motorsport (PGM) and despite the atrocious weather conditions over the Easter holiday weekend, he battled through practice making improvements to the set-up of the Suzuki Swift.

Oozing confidence going into the qualifying heats, the Welshman finished sixth in the opening heat before placing fifth in the second one and eventually improving to fourth in the third and final heat to set up a clash in the semi-final. From there, Tom battled to second place meaning a place in the all-important final for the second meeting in succession.

In the final, the teenager made a great start and was dicing at the front as he looked for victory. However, a clash with another driver ended up scuppering his hopes as he was spun out of a certain podium finish, ending up being placed eighth, much to his frustration.

Tom Llewellin: “We had a steady run through practice and we made a couple of modifications to the Tom Llewellincar to improve it so by the time the heats came around, I was on the pace that I expected. In the semi-final, I was matching the times of the top drivers and finished second, so I was feeling good for the final. I made a good start and got my Joker lap out of the way and was dicing for the lead when I was tagged by another driver which put me into the gravel with two laps to go so that was race over for me. It was very disappointing to be classified only eighth but it was a few more important points for me, so we’ll try again at Croft on May 6th. As ever, I’d like to thank the PGM Team who again did a great job and thanks also to my sponsors and family.”
