Eugene Donnelly will head to this weekend’s Rally of the Lakes (5th/6th May) in the Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing i20 R5 with renewed confidence as he tackles the second round of the Irish Tarmac Rally Championship in Killarney.

Having successfully put the brand new Hyundai into the top ten of the West Cork and Easter Stages, Donnelly and co-driver Mark Kane are looking to the two-day classic event in a bid to further develop the car and MRF Tyres for Irish soil. Read More »

Three more overseas crews confirmed today (May 4) for Sol Rally Barbados 2018 emphasise one of the core values of the Barbados Rally Club (BRC), the importance of family to the sustainable future of motor sport. A key pillar of the island’s sports-tourism product, Sol RB continues year-on-year to deliver visitors who combine the event with a family holiday. Sol RB18 will run from Friday to Sunday, June 1-3, with The Rally Show and Flow King of the Hill (KotH) the previous weekend, May 26/27.

Rallying couples Marcel Freling and Karen Robinson and Howard and Ruth Paterson, plus father and daughter Simon Nutter and Sonia Dent are the latest of 11 overseas family partnerships to post their entries. They join the likes of England’s Cheryl and Barry Spencer, who will mark the 10th anniversary of their beachfront wedding in Barbados, while Trinidad & Tobago’s Ryan and Scott Pinheiro and United States crew George and Anthony Sherman fall in to the father and son category. In a move designed to support two-wheel-drive and historic competitors, the Motor Sports Association (MSA) has relaxed its position to allow for split fields and more flexible seeding in stage rallying.

In 2015, the MSA reinforced the principle of running a single field, seeded in performance order. However, three years’ progress with rally safety has allowed the governing body to issue new guidelines for running two fields, including a provision to run the first field in reverse seeded order and also to seed by class. British rally co-driver Tom Woodburn got his Prestone MSA British Rally Championship campaign off to the best possible start last weekend, by taking the opening round Junior win alongside Norwegian ace Steve Rokland at the Pirelli International Rally (28th April).

Woodburn, 23 from Morecambe, guided Rokland to fastest stage time on seven of the eight special stages in the Kielder Forest, to win by an impressive 1 minute and 10 seconds over their nearest rival in their Peugeot 208 R2. The result nets Woodburn maximum points in the Junior series, opening up a seven point lead heading into round two. Read More »

Nationwide Accident Repair Services continued their strong run of form in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB as Dino Zamparelli scored two podium finishes at Donington Park. These points ensure Dino and Nationwide remain top of the championship standings after four of the season’s 16 races.

After qualifying third in the rain on Saturday morning, Dino put in a good drive during race one to reel in leader Tio Ellinas. The Nationwide-backed driver put constant pressure on Ellinas on a drying track but was unfortunately unable to find his way past before the end of the 23-lap race. Read More »
