Progressive Scottish rally driver Finlay Retson will head to this weekend’s Ulster Rally with his sights set firmly on winning the Cadet Cup category of the Prestone MSA British Rally Championship (17/18 August).

After a gut-wrenching retirement on the last round of the series in Belgium, the Blairgowrie driver will now need to take victory in the hotly contested category if he is to keep his title hopes alive in the series. Adam Morgan, Ashley Sutton and Chris Smiley shared the race winning spoils at Rockingham yesterday (12 August), whilst the battle for top spot in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship standings raged between Colin Turkington and Tom Ingram throughout the day.

The Jaguar I-TYPE 2 Formula E race car has set a new electric car course record of 30.46 seconds at the world-famous Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb in Worcestershire. The record attempt – a partnership between GKN Driveline and the Panasonic Jaguar Racing ABB FIA Formula E Championship team – saw New Zealander Mitch Evans pilot the Jaguar I-TYPE 2 on its dynamic debut in the UK on Sunday 12 August, breaking the previous record by 6.84 seconds. Daniel Rowbottom (Kidderminster) and first-time winner Jack McCarthy (Bromley) shared the victories in two pulsating Renault UK Clio Cup rounds at Rockingham over the weekend, but it is Max Coates (Scorton) who leaves the Northamptonshire circuit still ahead in the title race, albeit by the reduced margin of just seven points.

Team Pyro’s McCarthy had celebrated his 18th birthday by qualifying on pole position for the first of the two races, held on Saturday. He held the lead early on, too, but was soon passed by Rowbottom who, having come through from sixth on the grid, went on to achieve his and his small DRM team’s second win in three races.
