Welshman Tom Cave scored his first BRC win in a four-wheel-drive car with victory on the West Cork Rally.

Along with co-driver James Morgan, Cave won by a mere 4.8 seconds in his Hyundai i20 R5, ahead of reigning champion Matt Edwards (Ford Fiesta R5) in second. Defending Irish Tarmac champion Josh Moffett (Ford Fiesta R5) completed the podium.

Cave’s victory is the first BRC win for the Korean manufacturer Hyundai since 2004, when David Higgins was at the wheel.

Two-time Scottish Rally Champion Euan Thorburn stormed to a superb victory on the opening round of the season, the Border Counties Rally.

The Ford Focus WRC driver beat Garry Pearson’s Ford Fiesta R5 by 33 seconds to take the win, with Freddie Milne grabbing third place championship points in his Mitsubishi Lancer.

Competitors battled through difficult conditions throughout the event, overcoming snow, heavy rain and strong winds.

** ROUND THREE: STUART BUTTERFIELD TRIAL, 16 MARCH 2019

Simon Kingsley overcame difficult conditions to take his third consecutive win on the Stuart Butterfield trial.

Trialling novice Jonathan Hughes led into lunchtime until nerves during the afternoon saw him slip back to third. Andrew Woodhead drove consistently on his championship return to finish two points behind Kingsley in second.

Mike Salton won the live axle class in fourth overall, with Alan Baker winning the blue live axle class.
