Reigning MSA Junior Rallycross champion Tom Constantine was hoping for more success in round two of the Toyo Tires MSA British Rallycross Championship this weekend at Lydden Hill in Kent but after a superb performance at the opening round at Silverstone last month, he couldn’t manage a repeat.

The 18 year old from Richmond, North Yorkshire was again contesting the prestigious Swift Sport Championship within the BRX series and following his fantastic runner-up spot in round one last month, was full of confidence going into round two.

With backing from Advanced Vehicle Leasing, Teesside Karting, MP Groundworks and Plant Hire of Northallerton, Sig Leeds, Intermezzo Drive, Wray Joinery Limited, DJR Smith, Victoria Garage Richmond Ltd, Royal Purple Lubricants and Constantine Building Services, Tom’s weekend got off to a great start with victory in the opening heat but thereafter, a series of technical issues thwarted his bid for honours and he ended up missing out on the final.

Tom Constantine: “After a good test on Saturday afternoon, I was feeling good going into this weekend. Heat one started well by taking a dominant win but that was about as good as it got! Troubles with both gear selection and a sensor problem blighted me in the following two heats leaving it all to do in the semi-final. Sadly, after various repairs, the gear selection woes returned on the start line of the semi-final leaving me with only third and fourth gears. I drove the car as best I knew how to but sadly, we couldn’t get into fourth place to qualify for the final. It’s disappointing for it to end this way but me and the team never gave up which is a testament to them. Thanks to all the sponsors and my team who gave me massive support as normal.”

The next round of the series is a double header at Pembrey in South Wales over the weekend of 22/23 June where Tom will be hoping to get his championship challenge back on track.
