After a month’s break, Penrith racing driver Frank Bird returns to action this weekend when he contests the legendary Total Energies 24 Hours of Spa for Team WRT at their home round.

One of the most famous races in the world, the race in the Belgian Ardennes district forms the third round of the Endurance class in the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe and will see 21-year-old Frank compete alongside two teammates in the Audi R8 LMS.

The Belgian team has been a major player in the event, clinching victory in 2011 and 2014 and taking podium finishes in 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2016 whereby Cumbrian Bird and his teammates are looking to continue the run.

Indeed, last time out at Misano in Italy, Bird and Japanese colleague Ryuichiro Tomita took a sensational victory in the Silver Cup class, for lesser experienced drivers, which they backed up with a second-place finish also so arrive at Spa in confident mood.

For this race, the pair will be joined by Denmark’s Valdemar Eriksen for the race which gets underway at 16.30 on Saturday.

Frank Bird: “Spa is an amazing race in any case, but even more so when you do it with Team WRT, as it is home race for them. Seeing how much motivation and passion every team member puts in this race makes you even more motivated to give your everything to win it. We have a great team behind us, a great car, and a great line-up but we also know Spa is never easy. Thanks as always to my sponsors for allowing me the opportunity to experience this fantastic opportunity.”
