Following in the successful motorsporting footsteps of dad Paul and brother Frank, the latest in the Lexi Birdline of the Bird family is showing exceptional sporting prowess, albeit in a different field.

13-year-old Lexi Bird has previously excelled in the world of Karting and Motocross in recent years, but today it was power of a different kind when she contested the National IAPS Athletics Finals held at Nuneaton and came away with a superb fourth place in the Discus final.

The event was a showcase for a number of independent schools throughout the UK and having contested the regional North West heats last year, where Penrith-born Lexi won the 100m final and came second in the Shot Putt.

With Covid affecting the finals over the past two years, this year Lexi made it to the finals and representing Sedbergh Preparatory School (Casterton), just missed out on the medals by throwing just 2cm short of a victory in the Discus event.

However, as an acknowledgment of her sporting achievements, Lexi was made Captain of Athletics and ranked the best athlete at Casterton in 2022.
