David Henderson has taken the initial lead of the Protyre Motorsport UK Asphalt Rally Championship after winning the opening round of the 2023 sealed-surface series, the Reed Group East Riding Stages, in his Keco/PAR Petroleum-backed Ford Fiesta Rally2.

It was a titanic battle for victory, with the top three finishers covered by just 10 seconds.

Co-driven by Chris Lees, Henderson was seeded at number one and ran first on the road – which was a tricky starting position, given the East Yorkshire lanes were damp and extremely slippery in the morning and he had elected to go out on Michelin slick tyres. Read More »

Mark Donnelly and Stephen O’Hanlon claimed victory at today’s Samsonas Rally Fivemiletown, round one of the McGrady Insurance NI Forest Rally Challenge!

It was a start-to-finish success for the Fiesta R5 crew but the Greencastle driver was never able to relax as the chasing pack hunted him down throughout the eight-stage Omagh Motor Club event.

Going into the final stage, Donnelly’s advantage had been whittled down to just one-tenth of a second but he pulled out all the stops over the closing miles to secure the win by 1.7s. Read More »

HERO-ERA Competition Director Guy Woodcock today announced the youth-focused ‘Rally for the Ages’, for the young, for free,* which is designed to encourage younger people into historic rallying as an extension of HERO-ERA’s youth policy. The one-day rally will run from Bicester Heritage June 3.

In line with HERO-ERA’s policy of encouraging the young and the newbies into the sport, a compact one-day starter event will reward younger teams with a free entry! Crews with a combined age of less than 70 years at the time of the rally will be eligible to a full refund of the entry fee provided they start the event. Read More »

Following on from two solid points scoring outings in the opening rounds of the 2023 Asian Le Mans Series in Dubai last weekend, young Cumbrian driver Frank Bird, after a great drive in race one, endured a disappointing final race in the final two rounds which took place at the YAS Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi.

Once again driving for the German-based Haupt Racing Team, the Penrith-born driver was at the wheel of the team’s #6 Paul Bird Motorsport-backed Mercedes-AMG GT3 along with teammates Arjun Maini from India and Frenchman Michael Blanchemain for the pair of four-hour races. Read More »

Steve Wood will begin his Protyre Motorsport UK Asphalt Rally Championship title defence on the Reed Group East Riding Stages (Sunday 26 February) – and like all the events in last year’s calendar, this year’s opening round will be completely new to him.

The Aberystwyth driver will also start the season without his regular co-driver Dale Bowen, who is contesting another event in Portugal the same weekend – so Wood will be partnered by Mark Glennerster for the first time.
