A glorious day at Long Compton greeted the 35 crews who started the event, with 33 completing the days 3 passes across the 8 hills. Hill 6 provided an almost impossible section beyond post 6 on the first run, adding 5 points to everyone’s total in the first pass. With a revision to hill 6 for the next run low scores were achievable and in the end it was John Fack who took victory with a total of 20 points. Ian Veale took 2nd overall with 26 points in what proved to be a tight battle for 2nd overall with Ian Wright 3rd on 27 points and Josh Veale 4th with 28 points. Read More »

Fantastic weather conditions bathed the Otterburn ranges for the Tyneside Stages Rally. Peter Taylor & Andrew Roughead (Fiesta WRC) were car 1 and they utterly dominated the event, going fastest on all 12 stages and taking victory by over 2 minutes. Rory Young & Allan Cathers (Fiesta R5) were 2nd fastest on all 12 stages so took a deserved runners up place with Gordon Morrison & Calum MacPherson (Impreza) a further 50 seconds back, in third place. 1st 2WD crew home and a superb 4th overall were Ross Brusby & Sam Collis (Escort MkII) just 23s off a podium place. After a wonderful days trialing last year at Plashes Farm we had no hesitation about returning in 2018, especially as it is the closed season for modern trials. After weeks of dry weather some rain did fall overnight but the tests were all incredibly dry so the difficulty had to be stepped up to provide a challenge. Once again there was a bumper entry with well over 40 crews starting the event across the historic and post historic classes. Read More »

A glorious day in Southern Warwickshire saw the last event of the season before the summer break. Ian Wright took the win on the final pass of the hills, from close friend and rival Ian Veale. It had looked like a Veale win as he lead from the start, but a three on one of the final hills to Wright’s zero proved to be key as Wright finished on 11 points with Veale’s 13 points. Julian Fack was the best of the rest back on 24 points, completing the podium. Read More »

We took in another new venue for the Pennine Sporting Trial, near Warslow. The trialing season is approaching its summer break so there are only a handful of events left to gain valuable points, looking ahead to the championsip finals due in early January 2019. With the crews making 4 passes at each of the 8 hills it was Ian Wright & Alex Hill who took the lead only scoring 8 points. Roland Uglow & Laura Wilks managed the same score on the 2nd pass to take the overall lead going in to the lunchbreak. Read More »

A first for us as we took the opportunity to visit the BTCC Season Launch at Donington Park. The morning was dedicated to static photo shoots for the drivers and teams, as they presented their 2018 charges to the media. Then in the afternoon the crews had their only officially test session ahead of the new season. With wet conditions to start and a drying track the crews had a really useful afternoons testing. The first rallycross event at Silverstone saw three World RX drivers come and sample the track ahead of the May World RX meeting. Come the final and it was no surprise they filled the podium places but it was how commanding Sébastien Loeb’s victory was. Andreas Bakkerud (S1 WRX) looked unstoppable in qualifying but come the semi’s and then the final he came unstuck against the Peugeot 208 WRX drivers as behind the leader Loeb Timmy Hansen played the joker lap strategy perfectly to take 2nd place. Behind these Julian Godfrey (Mirage RX) was the top British championship crew. Read More »

It would not be February for us without the visit to Race Retro. It remains a firm favourite and the best motorsport show we attend. The presence of Motor Sport enhances the show with some wonderful cars on display in hall 3. The mixture of F1, endurance racing and rally cars is perfect and the various displays dotted around the 4 halls are all very good. Throw in the Silverstone Auctions element to the show and you have a superb show for any motorsport enthusiast. Read More »
