1stVassalloAnglesey Race Circuit hosted the final round of the 2014 Brick & Steel Junior 1000 Ecosse Challenge on 1st and 2nd November. 6 Junior 1000 Ecosse Challenge crews made the long journey South from Scotland and joined 16 crews from the Kick Energy Junior 1000 Rally Championship and 1 crew from Ireland.  For the Ecosse Challenge crews in their 1000cc rally cars this would be the longest and most demanding rally of the year – 60 miles long over 2 days with some stages in the dark and in galeforce conditions. andysecondThe 2014 Brick & Steel Junior 1000 Championship paid its third visit to Kames Motorsport Complex in East Ayrshire on 19th October for the ABR Travel Services Junior Rally. This would be the penultimate round of the Championship and final year placings depended on good results. To say that the weather was challenging would be understating the conditions faced by the 14 to 17 year old competitors in their 1000cc cars. One minute the wind blew strongly, next it blew even stronger but with heavy rain downpours and occasionally it was just plain windy with the sun breaking out – but this was the minority situation. vassallogilbeywinnersIt looked as if it was going to be another very close fought battle between Alexander Vassallo/Mike Gilbey (Citroen C1) and Dylan O’ Donnell/Tom Middlemiss (Peugeot 107) on the AONE Limited Junior 1000 Rally at Knockhill on 20th September 2014. This would be the sixth round of the 2014 Brick & Steel Junior 1000 Ecosse Challenge. The event was a mirror image of the event held on 30th August but this time the organisers were RSAC Motorsport . 13 Junior 1000 crews were entered and 11 finished in the results. 2 cars did not finish because of mechanical problems. IMG_2536Alex Vassallo/Neil Colman (Citroen C1)crossed the finish line of the last stage on the WestonTransport/Branston Junior Stages just 1 second ahead of Dylan O’Donnell/Tom Middlemiss (Peugeot 107) The rally – the fifth round of the 2014 Brick & Steel Junior 1000 Ecosse Challenge – was held at Knockhill Race Circuit on 30th August and followed a different format to most Junior events. The first car started on the peripheral roads at 3pm and then the rally switched to the main track for another 6 stages before finishing at 8pm.  A total of 13 Junior cars started the event and 11 finished. robertsonvassalloodonnellAlex Vassallo (16 from Corbridge, Northumberland) stood on the top of the podium at the end of the third round of the Brick & Steel Junior 1000 Ecosse Challenge. The Albar Kames Junior Rally took place at Kames in East Ayrshire on Sunday 13th July and 10 Junior crews had entered to tackle the twisty and very technical stages. The day started damp – which in Scotland means light rain – but started to clear later in the morning and ended in sunshine. In the transition the midgies came out for a feed!! VassallowinnerThe sun shone from the point people arrived at Kames Motorsport Complex in East Ayrshire to the point we all left on Sunday 20th April 2014. This would be the first event of the third season of the Brick & Steel Junior 1000 Ecosse Challenge – Scotland’s only car rally Championship for budding 14 to 17 year old drivers. A total of 13 crews drew up to the start line of the first stage – 10 were returning from 2013 and 3 were complete newcomers. Kames may be a small venue but it is a real test of skill and nerve and more than one crew were to find that it “can bite”!! Read More »
