McLaren Autosport16McLaren GT has announced today at the Autosport International show the formation of the McLaren GT Driver Academy. Alex Fontana (23) from Switzerland and Jersey-born Struan Moore (20) join Northern Irish 2015 McLaren GT Young Driver Andrew Watson (20). All three drivers already hold a wide variety of single seat and GT experience, and the Driver Academy will see them work closely with the team at McLaren GT, including Factory Drivers Rob Bell, Alvaro Parente and Bruno Senna, as they look to establish a successful career in competitive global GT racing. McLaren Bathurst16 announceMcLaren GT has confirmed the full line-up of Factory Drivers, alongside Andrew Watson from the Young Driver Programme, that will contest the 2016 Liqui Moly Bathurst 12 Hrs race in February with Australian-based Tekno Autosport, running as a GT entry for the first time. After the most successful season for McLaren GT, Tekno Autosport and Objective Racing will run three examples of the 650S GT3 at Mount Panorama, 5-7 February 2016, marking the debut outing for the model at the famous circuit. The McLaren 650S GT3 claimed class victory and fourth place overall at the Sepang 12 Hours this weekend, bringing an end to the competitive debut season of the car, and crowning what has been the most successful campaign to-date for the Woking outfit. McLaren GT Factory Driver Alvaro Parente and Young Driver Andrew Watson joined customer team FFF-Racing to secure a hard-fought victory in the Pro-Am category, and narrowly missed a podium finish overall as the flag fell after 12 hours of close racing.

McLaren Barcelona15aThe McLaren 650S GT3 claimed its first championship over the weekend in Barcelona as McLaren GT customer team Teo Martin Motorsports secured the International GT Open Championship title, and also saw the first victory for the McLaren GT Young Driver Programme. A hard-fought double podium finish for factory driver Alvaro Parente and teammate Miguel Ramos secured the championship, while Young Driver Andrew Watson took overall victory in the weekend’s opening sprint race alongside Fernando Monje.
