Another visit to Silverstone for the crazy race that is the Birkett 6hr Relay. With terrible weather blighting the race it finished early behind the safety car just shy of the 6hr mark. The scratch race was a clear win for the Breakell Racing Heroes, who took victory by over two laps from RJ Motorsport. The early finish did stop the close battle for the final podium place as Area Motorsport just edged out the Red Rascal’s. In the handicap race The Three Amigos 2.0 took victory from Team Darkside with Tegiwa Type-R Trophy taking the 3rd spot. Read More »

After missing the 2017 edition we were back for the 68th running of the Birkett 6hrs relay race. The day started out grey and once the rain started during the the 3rd hour of the race it only got worse. It did nothing to dampen the racing though and in the scratch race a late safety car period saw the gap between the top two teams dramatically reduced. Long time leaders Cupra Racing held on to win by half a second from the hard charging Breakell Racing Heroes, after the 6 hours of racing. In the handicap race it was the Red Rascal team who took victory by just over half a minute from the Mostly Rusty Two Seaters. Read More »

birkett16-7The Birkett continues to be a fascinating race and a highlight of the year as 70 teams took to the Silverstone GP circuit, for the end of season 6 hour race. After the first hour 3 teams were separated by just under 45 seconds with Tracktime Solutions in a fierce battle with JPR Motorsport (Sakr Rapx S1) with We Don’t Like Second back (Radical PR6 & SR3s) in 3rd place, but JPR Motorsport came unstuck in the 2nd hour where only having one race car saw them drop 5 laps. Tracktime Solutions still lead but having used their Radical SR3s early on the Lotus Exige drivers were out on track in the 3rd hour and We Don’t Like Second took the lead and never looked back. birkett15 (25)A very soggy Silverstone provided a challenge for the 68 teams that contested the 65th Birkett 6hrs Relay. In the scratch race Inspires (all Spire GT3’s) used their fastest driver, Tim Gray, to good effect to take victory by a lap with 128 laps in total, just getting an extra lap in before the flag dropped for 6 hours completed. Third Time Lucky (Radicals) came in 2nd overall missing out on getting on the same lap as the winners by 14 seconds, and leading at 4hr mark. The podium was completed by The Defibrillators (Vision, Phantom & Mallocks) a further 6 laps back. Read More »

birkett14 (6)Quite possible one of the most entertaining but baffling races you could ever wish to see. 70 teams of between 4-6 drivers and almost as many cars, it is almost impossible to keep track of this race as a handicap system is used so Smart cars can have just as much chance of winning as the Radicals. With BMWs, Caterhams, Ginettas, Locusts, MGs, Porsches & Saxos all thrown in to the mix this really is a race for anyone. In the end you just go with the flow and enjoy lots of overtaking and the sheer spectacle of 70 cars lapping Silverstone at one time. Read More »
