As we say goodbye to the fifth season of the Junior 1000 Ecosse Challenge, we also say goodbye to our longstanding title sponsor Brick & Steel Construction Co Limited. Brick & Steel joined the “Ecosse Challenge Family” in 2006 at a time when the 205 Ecosse Challenge was growing rapidly and we found ourselves working with some of the current top names in Scottish rallying as they started their careers.  Names such as Paul Mackinnon, Euan Thorburn, Mark McCulloch, John MacCrone and Garry Pearson all started their careers in the 205 Ecosse Challenge plus dozens more who may not have reached the dizzy heights of these guys but who have gone on to be very competent competitors. In 2012, the Junior 1000 Ecosse Challenge was introduced to Scotland and Brick & steel became the title sponsor of this extremely popular Championship which continues the work of the 205 Ecosse Challenge but with a younger age group – 14 to 17 year olds. awardwinnersThe Brick & Steel Junior 1000 Ecosse Challenge ended its 2016 season with a day at Knockhill Racing Circuit on Sunday 11th December 2016.  The day started with a Production Car Autotest where several parents and co-drivers pitted their driving skills against a group of the young hotshot Junior drivers from 2016. At the end of the day it was one of the fathers – John Mackay from Newburgh, Aberdeenshire – who took the victory in son Johnny’s Nissan Micra. But by only a slender margin. It was a bit of fun after all. Or was it??? Read More »

glyn-memorial16aThe Glyn Memorial Junior Rally on Anglesey has become the traditional closer for the Brick & Steel Junior 1000 Ecosse Challenge. This is the “International” element – we not only compete in a different country but on a separate island!! In past years the rally has taken place during the last weekend in October but moved a month to last weekend in November to accommodate Wales Rally GB!! In 2016, 10 registered crews from the Junior 1000 Ecosse Challenge made the trip down to join 16 crews from the Kick Energy Junior 1000 Championship for 2 days of rallying and 25% of the stages in the dark. The furthest travelled Scottish crew was from Inverness – 480 miles each way. Read More »

leuchars-top_3Leuchars Airbase in NE Fife has been synonymous with powerful jets and air displays for many years but it is just one of the MOD properties in Scotland that has warmly welcomed single venue rallying onto its tarmac over the last few years. Aberdeen and District Motor Club ran the first rally there on 22nd October 2016 and the Weston Transport/Branston Junior Granite Rally was the penultimate round of the 2016 Brick & Steel Junior 1000 Championships. A total of 13 Junior crews turned out on what was to be a pretty dreich day but that did not lessen the excitement or pace of the young drivers and their “adult” co-drivers. Read More »

top3Brick & Steel Junior 1000 Ecosse Challenge competitors enjoyed another superb day on Round 3 at The Crail Summer Junior Stages Rally, Crail Raceway on 18th June. The dry hot weather did make a difference and that plus the quality of event laid on by Glenrothes Motor Sport Club meant we had the ingredients for a brilliant day out. All the young 14 to 17 year old drivers  took maximum advantage in their 1000cc rally cars and we were rewarded with 13 finishers out of 14 starters (this compares to 53 out of 83 in the Senior event)  We lost Josh Hislop/Ellya Gold in SS1 with gearbox problems. B&S16 top3The second round of the 2016 Brick & Steel Junior 1000 Ecosse Challenge took place at Kames Motorsport Complex in East Ayrshire on 8th May and took place under unusual and unexpected glorious sunshine.
