Duns rally driver Euan Thorburn scratched his name on the winner’s trophy of the Dunoon Presents Argyll Rally for the second time in his career, winning the closely fought event by over a minute from his nearest rival on Saturday (22nd June).

The Dunoon Presents Argyll Rally (23rd June) sped into the region this weekend, as a titanic battle for victory developed in the forests surrounding Dunoon, eventually going to the Ford Focus WRC crew of Andrew Gallacher and Jane Nicol.

Inverness pilot Donnie MacDonald and co-driver Jamie Edwards took a mightily close second spot with Bruce McCombie (Banchory) grabbing a well earned final podium position in his ageing Mitsubishi Evo IX with Michael Coutts alongside. Read More »

The ARR Craib MSA Scottish Rally Championship (SRC) was well represented on last weekend’s penultimate round of the World Rally Championship, Dayinsure Wales Rally GB.

Crews from the championship have won the National event for the past four years, with 2016 winners Bruce McCombie and Michael Coutts heading this year’s entry list in their Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX. John Wink and John Forrest (Hyundai i20 R5), Simon Hay and Calum Jaffray (Mitsubishi Evo VI) and Alasdair Graham and Laura Stuart (Mitsubishi Evo IX) also all featured among the top seeds. ARR Craib MSA Scottish Rally Championship (SRC) front runner Bruce McCombie will head away an 81 strong entry list at this weekend’s Wales Rally GB National Rally and the field is packed with SRC crews aiming for glory in the Welsh forests.

The Wales Rally GB National runs alongside the penultimate round of the 2017 World Rally Championship and sees the competitors take on 60 competitive stage miles across two days of action.

The event has been won by Scottish Rally Championship crews ever since 2013 when Euan Thorburn and Paul Beaton took victory in their Ford Focus WRC. Mike Faulkner and Peter Foy took over the baton in 2014 and 2015, taking victory in their Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX before McCombie and co-driver Michael Coutts excelled last year in a similar machine. walesgb16-5Three weeks earlier and not quite as cold but the rain and mud were present as ever for Wales Rally GB. Sébastien Ogier & Julien Ingrassia (Polo R WRC) took the lead from stage 1 and went on to win the rally and cement the manufacturers World Championship for Volkswagen in the process. It was not plain sailing though as Ott Tänak & Raigo Mölder (Fiesta RS WRC) hunted down the World Champions, especially on the final day, closing to just over 10 seconds. Ogier held on though with 4 fastest stage times on day 1, followed by another 3 on day 2 helping him to build a decent lead. A clean sweep on day 3 of 6 fastest stage times from 6, added to 6 earlier in the event, were almost enough for Tänak. Read More »
