It was a day of contrasts in South Wales as the stages were choked with dust first thing and then in the afternoon rain moved in to dampen the dust down and turn the stages slippery. Dylan Davies & Mark Glennerster (Fiesta R5) were the class of the field and took victory by 53s from Russ Thompson & Andy Murphy (Evo IX) but the tight battle was in the Historics. Simon Webster & Jez Rogers (Escort MkII) took a final stage victory from Steve Bennett & Osian Owen (Escort MkII) by 2s after trailing them by a single second after the 5th of the 6 stages. Nick Elliott and Dave Price took a dominant two wheel drive victory at the North Wales Rally Services – Rally North Wales today (24th March), with Dylan Davies and Llion Williams picking up the four wheel drive win at the re-vamped event.

The 60th running of the Wolverhampton and South Staffordshire Car Club organised rally saw a shift in format for the 2018 event as over 120 crews headed to Dolgellau for the opening round of the Fuchs MSA British Historic Rally Championship, Rally2 series and second round of the Pirelli MSA Welsh Rally Championship. World Rally Championship ace Elfyn Evans overcame “arctic like” conditions on last weekends (5/6 March) Mid Wales Stages to take victory on home soil and first blood in the opening round of the MSA British Rally Championship. Along with co-driver Craig Parry, the Welshman battled with Swede Fredrik Ahlin in his similar machine during the tough Newtown based event, but came out victorious after battling through six snow and ice covered stages to take the win in his Ford Fiesta R5. Local hero Tom Cave took third in a similar Fiesta R5.

Kumho Hamsterley13Having finished a fighting second in round one of the West Wales Rally Spares R.A.C Rally Championship, Marty McCormack and co-driver Phil Clarke went one better last week (April 28) and achieved overall victory in the SG Petch Tour of Hamsterley by 45 seconds.
