Another packed weekend at Silverstone saw the ELMS take centre stage on the Saturday. With the 4 hour race usually a hard one to call it proved to be three in a row for the no26 G-Drive Racing Oreca-Gibson of Roman Rusinov, Andrea Pizzitola and Jean-Eric Vergne to extend their championship lead. Vergne took the chequered flag one lap ahead of the no21 Dragonspeed Oreca of Nico Lapierre and the no28 IDEC Sport Oreca of Paul Lafargue.  United Autosports took their first LMP3 win of the 2018 season with the no3 Ligier of Tony Wells, Matt Bell and Garret Grist taking the top spot ahead of the no7 Ecurie Ecosse / Nielsen Ligier and the no17 Ultimate Norma. After missing the ELMS race in 2016 we were back at Silverstone for the full weekend and the 4 hour race proved to be dramatic to the end. Will Owen/Hugo de Saedeleer/Filipe Albuquerque (United Autosports – Ligier/Gibson) took a last gasp victory from Memo Rojas/Ryo Hirakawa/Leo Roussel (G-Drive Racing – Oreca/Gibson) who were struggling on old tyres at the end of the race. Dennis Andersen/Anders Fjordbach (High Class Racing – Dallara/Gibson) completed the podium. In LMP3 John Falb/Sean Rayhall (United Autosports – Ligier/Nissan) took victory with the GTE victory going to Salih Yoluc/Euan Hankey/Nicki Thiim (TF Sport – Aston Martin Vantage V8).

With the top 3 finishing just over 20 seconds apart after 4 thrilling hours of racing it was the Greaves Motorsport Gibson 015S-Nissan driven by Gary Hirsch/Bjorn Wirdheim/Jon Lancaster that took victory by less than half a second from the Jota Sport Gibson-Nissan of Simon Dolan/Filipe Albuquerque/Harry Tincknell. The talking point came when in the last 15 minutes of the race when Lancaster appeared to take out the Thiriet by TDS Oreca 05 driven by Tristan Gommendy at Aintree, whilst team mates Ludovic Badey & Pierre Thiriet could only look on. When Gommendy regained the track they had dropped to third and could not fight back. Read More »

elms13 (33)A packed weekend down at Silverstone and this is installment one from the Saturday. We got two European Formula 3 races, qualifying for the World Endurance Championship but the main feature was European Le Mans Series qualifying, followed by the 3 hour race. With the rain clouds setting in towards the end of the first hour the race became a battle of who could keep it on the track. A safety car followed at about 1hr 40mins in and the race was neutralised until the 75% race distance point had been reached and the red flag could be dropped, with full points awarded. Read More »
