swansea bay 09 (6)The rain dampened down the usual dust we come to expect from this event but it did not dampen the intense battle for victory. The top three seeded crews all led the rally at various points but when gearbox gremlins struck the Impreza WRC of Roger Duckworth & Mark Broomfield with two stages to go it was down to a two way battle. The Accent WRC of Marcus Dodd & Andrew Bargery led the Focus WRC of Steve Perez & Paul Spooner in to the last stage, but ten seconds dropped was enough to see Perez take victory after suffering road penalties earlier on in the event, (for leaving service late). However 2nd place was enough to confirm Dodd & Bargery as the 2009 National Gravel Champions, making a hat-trick for the crew and 5 in total for Dodd. Duckworth completed the podium half a minute back, whilst fourth place saw Daniel Barry & Martin Brady clinch the Evo Challenge. Read More »

Manx National 09 (16)Once again the Manx National provided us with great entertainment and four seasons in one rally! Whilst the entry may have been depleted upon previous years, the sharp end was as competitive as ever, with a trully impressive top ten line up. With the local crews going well over the opening stages, in changeable conditions, it took a few stages for the leaderboard to settle down overnight. Paul Bird & Ian Windress took the overnight lead in their Focus WRC from the Accent WRC of Marcus Dodd & Andrew Bargery. Bird extended his lead through the Saturday to take a historic first Manx victory. Dodd dropped back with Melvyn Evans & Sean Mullally moving their Impreza WRC in to second place on the first loop. The podium was completed by Roger Duckworth & Mark Broomfield who snatched third on the final stage, after losing time getting used to their new Impreza WRC on the Friday night. Read More »

border-counties-09-1A glorious day greeted the National Gravel and Scottish Championship crews in the borders. Overall honours looked very much like one from the top and so it proved to be, as they locked out the podium positions. It was Marcus Dodd & Andrew Bargery who took their ageing Accent WRC to victory over the Focus WRC pairing of Steve Perez and Paul Bird, (co-driven by Paul Spooner and Ian Windress respectively). Perez took the lead on the Friday night stages, but both Dodd and Bird continually gained ground on the Saturday, with Dodd taking victory by just under 6 seconds from Perez with Bird a further 18 seconds back in third. sun09-no6a1Another year and another trip down South for the Sunseeker. A rather depleted entry took to the stages Saturday morning and the top three on the entry list all retired due to a variety of maladies. So it was Will Nicholls & Nick Broom who took victory after a day long battle with Roger Duckworth & Mark Broomfield. Completing the podium were Sean Devine & Francis Regan, making it a 1-2-3 for the Subaru marque.

The battle in group N was immense with Daniel Barry & Martin Brady just edging out Simon Hughes & Patrick Walsh to take the first round of the Evo Challenge. The overseas contingent made their presence known too as Andreas Magnusson & Henrik Hulterskog just took third in group N and the Evo Challenge, with one stage remaining, from Nik Elsmore & Craig Drew.
