The final round of the 2017 Junior 1000 Ecosse Challenge took place in the Riverside Museum Glasgow on 3rd February. It was the annual awards ceremony and what better way to enjoy it than in a venue where Scottish transport through the ages is on open display. They have everything from penny farthings through Sinclair C5 to great big steam railway engines!!! A well turned out crowd of over 50 turned up to witness the occasion. Maybe it was our “secret weapon” to present the awards – none other than that “tartanacious motorologist specialising in Scottish motor rallying “, one Mr Jaggy Bunnet. Or to give him his Sunday name – John Fife. We had one gatecrasher – a very friendly Clyde built swan who tried to come in the window. Read More »

Round 3 of the 2017 Junior 1000 Ecosse Challenge was the EACC 5 Star Junior Stages at Kames Motorsport Complex, Muirkirk on 7th May 2017 – a very different challenge compared to rounds 1 and 2  for the young drivers with short, narrow and very technical stages. The sun belted down all day (leaving a few lobsters to suffer the next day), the competition was close , there were some mechanical dramas but no serious incidents. 9 Juniors started and 9 recorded finishes but 4 collected stage maximums for mechanical issues and a “wee off”. The Royal Highland Showground at Ingliston was the setting for the first event of the 2017 Junior 1000 Ecosse Challenge – the first outing since Anglesey in November 2016 .  Eleven young drivers – all aged 15 to 16 – gathered with their 1000cc rally cars to see who would be in contention to be 2017 Champion. Dunfermline Car Club  were the organisers of the 8 stage, 25 mile Blackwood Plant Hire sponsored  DCC Junior Stages. This would be the first time back at Ingliston for the Juniors  since 2013 and the Junior only Sunday event – which took the same effort  to run  as the 80 car Senior event on the day before – was a really welcome and appreciated addition to the Championship calendar.

leuchars-top_3Leuchars Airbase in NE Fife has been synonymous with powerful jets and air displays for many years but it is just one of the MOD properties in Scotland that has warmly welcomed single venue rallying onto its tarmac over the last few years. Aberdeen and District Motor Club ran the first rally there on 22nd October 2016 and the Weston Transport/Branston Junior Granite Rally was the penultimate round of the 2016 Brick & Steel Junior 1000 Championships. A total of 13 Junior crews turned out on what was to be a pretty dreich day but that did not lessen the excitement or pace of the young drivers and their “adult” co-drivers. Read More »
