This weekend will see Cornish rally driver Matt Cotton return to the British Rally Championship after a 3 year break from the sport when he lines up to tackle the Rallye Sunseeker which takes place in the Bournemouth region. Having to take a forced sabbatical from international rallying in 2009 due to a lack of funds, Matt will face some of Europe’s fastest drivers in the race to win the UK’s most prestigious rallying title. Rally driver Nick Cristofaro, from Milford Haven, battled gearbox problems all day on the Bulldog International Rally but he came away from a difficult event with a good haul of points to maintain both his fifth position in the British Rally Championship (BRC) Formula 2 standings and second in the Fiesta Sporting Trophy (FST). Another year and another Bulldog rally and this time we did get to see the BRC crews but not until we had caught the BHRC crews twice. In the headline event Elfyn Evans took his first major victory, co-driven by Andrew Edwards in his Impreza N15. In the Historic’s Nick Elliott & Chris Brooks (Escort MkII) built up a comfortable lead and kept Julian Reynolds in check through the last few stages. Matt Edwards & Sam Collis (MG ZR) were easy winners in the BRC Challenge with last but by no means least Shaun Gardener & Ben Innes (Evo 5.9) won the National rally by just 2.6 seconds. Read More »

Matt Edwards’ 2009 season had seemingly drawn to a close with a disappointing result on Trackrod Rally Yorkshire back in September in his Fiesta ST, but despite being dealt a severe dose of bad luck in losing out on the BRC Challenge title he seemed favourite to take, the GPM, High Hill Ford, and Silkolene 710 supported driver now has something to celebrate for his year-long efforts. Edwards Ulster 09Welshman Matt Edwards and Manx Co-driver Rob Fagg will this weekend bid for the British Rally Championship Challenge series as they head to the classic fast forest stages of North Yorkshire in their Ford Fiesta ST. With support from GPM, High Hill Ford, and Silkolene 710 Oil, the pairing will be working round the clock to make the event after a first stage accident brought an end to their Fiesta Sport Trophy UK hopes, but will still be battling for the runner up spot in the competitive series.
