Irishman Keith Cronin and co-driver Mikie Galvin were crowned Prestone MSA British Rally Champions after a gruelling three days of action on the 138.com Rally Isle of Man (14-16 September). Cronin and Galvin in their DMACK-shod Ford Fiesta R5, clinched the championship for M-Sport outside the famous TT Grandstand after taking both round 7 and round 8 victories on the island classic. Cronin won four rounds in 2017 on his way to the title and has now clinched Britain’s premier rallying series for a fourth time – more incredibly in four different cars.

A trying weekend on the Isle of Man for competitors and especially the organisers saw a thrilling finale to the BRC season. The rally was split into two legs and Keith Cronin, co-driven by Mikie Galvin in his Fiesta R5, won the opening leg by 18.5 seconds. Matt Edwards & Darren Garrod (Fiesta R5) took 2nd place and were now out of the title battle but a 3rd place saw Fredrik Ahlin & Torstein Eriksen (Fabia R5) keep the championship lead. Cronin needed a carbon copy result in the 2nd leg to be champion. It was a little closer than planned but Cronin got a repeat result to take the title, his 4th in the BRC, by 1 point. The gap to Edwards was just 0.1s with Ahlin almost 25 seconds back in 3rd, having lost that time and more after a costly off on the Friday night. Read More »

The Prestone MSA British Rally Championship races across the Irish Sea for the penultimate event of the series with the legendary Ulster Rally the next stop on the action-packed calendar. This year’s Nicky Grist Stages (8-9 July) proved to be a huge success, with spectators enjoying great weather and spectacular high-speed action, competitors rising magnificently to the challenge of a two-day mixed surface event, the event organisers Quinton MC running an incident-free rally and Builth Wells hosting fantastic town centre start and finish ceremonies.

With three rallies in one and competitors battling for points in 10 different championships, the mid-Wales event attracted 147 starters – all of which were flagged away from outside the magnificent Strand Hall in the heart of Builth Wells on Saturday morning. Read More »

Swedish driver Fredrik Ahlin and his Norwegian co-driver Torstein Eriksen claimed victory on round five of the Prestone MSA British Rally Championship – the Nicky Grist Stages (8/9 July). Local crew Osian Pryce and Dale Furniss (Ford Fiesta R5) led for most of the event until a high-pressure fuel pump failure sidelined the Welsh pairing on Sunday afternoon – allowing the Scandinavian crew to inherit the lead in their DMACK Skoda Fabia R5. The only mixed surface event on the BRC calendar saw Fredrik Ahlin & Torstein Eriksen (Fabia R5) take victory, regaining the championship lead in the process. Osian Pryce & Dale Furniss (Fiesta R5) had lead after the opening days 8 gravel stages but they stopped on the 4th stage of the tarmac stages and with that the championship lead too. Matt Edwards & Phil Clarke (Fiesta R5) took 2nd place, 47.6 seconds behind Ahlin, to back up Edwards fine 2nd place in Ypres. Completing the podium were Rhys Yates & Alex Lee (Fiesta R5) after a tight battle with Martin McCormack & David Moynihan (Fiesta R5) with just 3.7 seconds separating the pair.
