Chui Safari Lodge Manageress, Suzanne Zwager, will make her rally codriving debut on next weeks Nanyuki Rally when she will codriver Geoff Mayes in a Kingsway Tyres supported Landrover V8 rally raid car.

The pair are regulars in the Kenyan Rally Raid Championship but this is the first motor rally for Zwager. Mayes recorded two SPV podium finishes in this V8 monster in 2016 and is hoping for similar results in Nanyuki. The car has undergone major under body development work and will run on specially developed XcelRide suspension, customized by former Kenyan Rally Champion Azar Anwar. Read More »

After impressing on their debut on the Baringo Rally Raid in April, Professional safari guide Geoff Mayes and Naivasha resident Suzanne Zwager will reunite for the third round of the 2016 Kenyan Rally Raid Championship. The pair will use the very same Silverspread Meru supported V8 rally raid car which Mayes used to scored a class podium on the recent KCB Safari Rally.

Mayes and his chief mechanic, Pete Young, have completed a thorough examination of their rally raid car after the tough and gruelling Safari Rally, an event which Mayes tasted champagne with a fine podium finish, and after a basic spanner check the rally raid car, affectionately called “the flying elephant” will be ready for this weekends event in Naivasha. Safari guide and wildlife photographer Geoff Mayes and Scottish born Jamie Mactavish successfully guided their SPV class V8 rally raid car to a top twenty overall position and third in class on the just finished KCB Safari Rally.

This years event saw crews face two and a half challenging days in the Great Rift Valley over terrain more suited to a Dakar event than a flat out motor rally. Attrition was high as cars succumbed to rocks, ruts, dust and even encounters with wild animals but through it all the Landrover continued. Mayes and Mactavish did have their own dramas, an unmarked ditch in the organisers notes saw the raid car flung into the trees at high speed, emerging with body damage but only minimal time loss. Kenyan based safari guide Geoff Mayes will once again team up with Scottish born Jamie Mactavish as the pair do battle against Kenyas finest rally drivers on the forthcoming three day long KCB Safari Rally. The pair will go head to head with former Kenyan Rally Champion Carl “Flash” Tundo for SPV (specially prepared vehicles) honours after upgrading to a mighty V8 rally raid car. Kenyan based Geoff Mayes and Craven Arms co-driver Kim Buxton enjoyed a strong run on the recent Tempest Rally, just south of London, before a fuel sensor ultimately forced the Maxxis Tyres supported pair into retirement. Although the pair were competing in a brand new, almost standard Proton, on a rally that neither had ever contested before, they were setting times comparable with far more powerful cars all day long.
