Out of it’s usual February slot the South Downs Stages saw a tight battle for victory, all event long. Richard Weaver & James Pink (Evo VI) set the initial pace, leading after stage 1 and regaining the lead after stage 4. Half a minute dropped on stage 6 proved costly though and handed the lead back to Jeremy & Mark Straker (Darrian T90 GTR+) who held it until the end of the rally to take victory by just 2s. The overnight rain left the Goodwood circuit slippy and very green for the first stage and it was Richard Weaver & James Pink (Evo VI) who took advantage of their four wheel drive to set fastest time by 9 seconds. It set the tempo and a heavy downpour after stage 2 really played in to the 4WD crews hands for the following stages. Weaver set fastest time on all 5 stages to the lunchbreak and followed up with two more after lunch, on a now dry track. With a 56s lead Weaver relaxed slightly on the last pair of stages to secure overall victory by 45s. Read More »

– Burlen Managing Director Mark Burnett and Dickie Meaden raced a Swiftune-prepared, ex-Jon Mowatt Mini 1275GT in wintery conditions at last weekend’s 76MM meet at Goodwood.
– The Salisbury-based company also displayed its newest products, including the latest updates on its revolutionary SUi injection project and fresh items from the SU Clothing Company
– Despite atrocious conditions the racing went ahead throughout the weekend

Formula 5000 single-seaters thundered around the Goodwood Motor Circuit this morning as the 76th Members’ Meeting honoured these charismatic racers. This category was hugely popular in Europe, the USA and Australia during the late 1960s and much of the ’70s, and 30 of these small-block V8-engined monsters ventured trackside, ranging from such well-known marques as Lola, Chevron and McLaren to the one-off Hepworth-Ferguson four-wheel drive machine and a brace of ultra-rare Begg-Chevrolets. Former Formula One star David Coulthard impressed during qualifying for the Salvadori Cup race. The Scot steered the IWC Schaffhausen historic Racing Team Mercedes-Benz 300SL with gusto against an army of sports-racers ahead of tomorrow’s race. IWC is in its fourth year as Official Timing Partner of the Goodwood Members’ Meetings, having previously created such memorable moments as Mika Häkkinen and Jochen Mass driving the fabulous W196 ‘Silver Arrows’ in 2016. IWC CEO, Christoph Grainger-Herr, was on hand on Saturday morning to unveil the 300SL ‘Gullwing’ before brand ambassador Coulthard ventured trackside in anger. Read More »

The early murk has cleared over the Goodwood Motor Circuit, and a mouthwatering array of historic racing cars are currently storming the track in what promises to be a thrilling Members’ Meeting. It may be chilly, but it isn’t snowing! In addition to a packed race programme, there will be high-speed demonstrations of V8-engined Formula 5000 single-seaters and flame-spitting Group 5 sports and saloon cars. It may have been only our 2nd visit to the South Downs Stages, at Goodwood, but it witnessed a thrilling finale in challenging weather conditions. Lee Jones & Daniel Boshier (Ferrari 308 Michelotto) took victory by 7 seconds but had gone in to the final stage leading by only 1 second. Runners up were Ian & Oliver Hucklebridge (Escort MkII) with Dean Thomas & Mark Burt (DTR) just over a minute behind the winners. Read More »
