A wet and wild Wales Rally GB saw Ott Tänak & Martin Järveoja (Yaris WRC) consolidate their championship lead with a fine victory on the muddy tracks. Tänak set 7 fastest stage times but with Thierry Neuville & Nicolas Gilsoul (i20 Coupe WRC) consistently on the pace the winning margin was only 10.9s. Reigning champions Sébastien Ogier & Julien Ingrassia (C3 WRC) had been the ones pushing Tänak through the early parts of the rally but they slipped back to third and finished a further 12.9s back. The ARR Craib MSA Scottish Rally Championship (SRC) was well represented on last weekend’s penultimate round of the World Rally Championship, Dayinsure Wales Rally GB.

Crews from the championship have won the National event for the past four years, with 2016 winners Bruce McCombie and Michael Coutts heading this year’s entry list in their Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX. John Wink and John Forrest (Hyundai i20 R5), Simon Hay and Calum Jaffray (Mitsubishi Evo VI) and Alasdair Graham and Laura Stuart (Mitsubishi Evo IX) also all featured among the top seeds. ARR Craib MSA Scottish Rally Championship (SRC) front runner Bruce McCombie will head away an 81 strong entry list at this weekend’s Wales Rally GB National Rally and the field is packed with SRC crews aiming for glory in the Welsh forests.

The Wales Rally GB National runs alongside the penultimate round of the 2017 World Rally Championship and sees the competitors take on 60 competitive stage miles across two days of action.

The event has been won by Scottish Rally Championship crews ever since 2013 when Euan Thorburn and Paul Beaton took victory in their Ford Focus WRC. Mike Faulkner and Peter Foy took over the baton in 2014 and 2015, taking victory in their Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX before McCombie and co-driver Michael Coutts excelled last year in a similar machine. Huntly rally driver John Wink and co-driver John Forrest have sensationally purchased a Hyundai New Generation i20 R5 to compete in the ARR Craib MSA Scottish Rally Championship (SRC).

The duo have campaigned a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX for the past few years but having sold the Evo to Michael Binnie, will make the Hyundai R5’s SRC debut on the Grampian Forest Rally on 12th August. The outing will mark just the fourth appearance for the Hyundai R5 on UK soil and the first in private hands. Read More »
