This weekend at Rally Australia, born and bred Coffs Coaster Nathan Quinn will drive a Motorsport Italia-run MINI John Cooper Works WRC sporting the latest generation 01C engine, only ever used twice before in anger on WRC events.

Quinn’s first run in his MINI was this afternoon. He managed to squeeze in a 40 kilometre test before he faces the other WRC drivers on Thursday’s Qualifying Stage. The young Aussie’s first impressions of the MINI were positive: “The test today was interesting. I drove perhaps the 40 most valuable kilometres I’ve ever done in a rally car. Both Ralliart Italy drivers Carlos Garcia Fessman and José Alexander Gelvez were delighted to complete all the Day One stages successfully at Rally Finland. Less concerned about their times than about learning how to tackle the fast Finnish gravel, they were pleased to get 45.51 kilometres under their belt before they take on even faster stages tomorrow.

The Venezuelan pair had very close times throughout the day. Fessman had added experience after recently competing in a Ralliart Italy Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X at Rally d’Italia. However, he and his countryman were inseparable on the first day of competition and incredibly they finished on exactly the same time of 35 minutes 22 seconds! Read More »
