Current and former MSA British Rally Championship drivers and co-drivers displayed impressive form this weekend, as four crews took class awards on the final round of the FIA World Rally Championship, Wales Rally GB.

Proving their pace on the north Wales-based four day event, former BRC Junior Champion and Pirelli Star Driver Elfyn Evans won the hotly contested WRC2 category, ably guided by Daniel Barritt, while topping the WRC3 time-sheets were newly crowned British Rally Champions Jukka Korhonen and Marko Salminen.

Heading Class 6 on the event was BRC Twingo R2 Trophy winner Chris Ingram with Patrick Walsh, while making a massive but successful leap from the NGK Spark Plugs BRC Challenge were Class 8 winners Tony Simpson and Jonathan Jackson. Read More »

With the tops posts in the championship decided it was all about who would clinch 2nd place in the drivers championship. Jari-Matti Latvala & Miikka Anttila (Polo WRC) were looking at completing a hat trick of Wales Rally GB wins but they could not catch Sébastien Ogier & Julien Ingrassia completed a 9th win of the season, in the sister Polo WRC, to make their 1st championship truly memorable. Latvala took 2nd place and with that he ended up 3rd in the championship as 3rd on the rally was enough for Thierry Neuville & Nicolas Gilsoul (Fiesta WRC) to sew up 2nd in the championship. The 2013 MSA British Rally Championship Awards Ceremony, affectionately known as The BRC Bash, scored another resounding success in Manchester at the weekend, honouring winners from the BRC and its support series the NGK Spark Plugs BRC Challenge.

The black tie event was hosted once again by John Horton, familiar to followers of the BRC as the host at the start and finish ceremonies of most of the series’ rallies. He shared the microphone with Championship Manager Mark Taylor, who took the opportunity to thank sponsors, events, marshals and of course competitors for making the 2013 season so successful. Jukka Korhonen and Marko Salminen broke the 12 year Finnish drought at the top of the MSA British Rally Championship this weekend, finishing the final stage of Rallye Sunseeker International in third place, securing the British overall and class titles in their Citroën DS3 amid jubilant scenes.

Korhonen appeared relieved but delighted at the finish of the event saying; “I really don’t know what to say right now! It’s been one of the longest days ever, but it is just an amazing feeling! I am so proud to add my name to the trophy that has the likes of Hannu Mikkola and Ari Vatanen on it.

“The competition has been so close; it has been a very good year. Marko has done a fantastic job this year and I must thank the Autosport Technology team too, the car has been perfect.” Read More »

Finn Jukka Korhonen heads to the Rally Sunseeker as hot favourite to take the MSA British Rally Championship and the Citroën Racing Trophy UK titles this weekend.

Korhonen currently leads the series by 12 points, but with a superb set of prizes in store for the top three finishers and the final positions still to be decided, there’s a lot at stake as the crews line up on Friday night for the ceremonial start at Poole Quay.

This year’s Citroën Racing Trophy UK winner receives 8000€, a free entry into Wales Rally GB and 20 Pirelli rally tyres, with second place also receiving a free entry, 5000€ and 12 free Pirelli tyres. Round four of the Citroën Racing Trophy UK will take place on the Todds Leap Ulster Rally. The rally gets underway on Friday from a new base in Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh.

The Rally NI section hosts the Citroën Racing Trophy UK and MSA British Rally Championship runners and it is 29-year-old Finn, Jukka Korhonen, who will start at number one, as he leads both the British Rally Championship and Citroën Racing Trophy UK series. Read More »
