Britain’s Kevin Procter, a fan favourite for his flamboyant driving style, is aiming for the podium in Sol Rally Barbados 2019, the 30th running of the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) premier event. His 10 top 10 finishes in 13 visits include three fourth places – he was just 1.2 seconds off the podium in Sol RB17 – but third has always eluded him. Local fans are expected to turn out in force once again for the popular Swift Signs and Shirts Christmas Stages Rally which takes place within the confines of Croft Circuit near Darlington this Sunday (16th December).

Despite being held a little earlier than normal this year, entries for Northallerton Automobile Club’s annual extravaganza rapidly filled and sees one of the strongest fields assembled in recent years with an eclectic mix of cars and drivers set to contest the event which comprises eight stages of varying routes around the North Yorkshire racetrack. With the United Kingdom facing another cold snap – sub-zero temperatures are forecast again in the coming days – rally crews across the country are turning their thoughts to warmer climes, and to Sol Rally Barbados 2018. As next week’s deadline approaches for cars to be delivered to the south coast port of Dover, new home of Geest Line’s shipping operations, the overseas entry has reached 35, with further announcements to come.

Sol RB18 will run from Friday to Sunday, June 1-3, with The Rally Show and Flow King of the Hill (KotH) the previous weekend, May 26/27. Today’s confirmations of four more competitors in the Clubman, Modified and SuperModified categories, raises the total in the on-line entry list on the official web site, rallybarbados.net, to 85 cars. Britain’s Kevin Procter will “come back stronger” when he competes in Sol Rally Barbados for the 13th time this year, having equalled his best-ever result of fourth in Sol RB17. The flamboyant Yorkshireman confirmed his participation shortly after finishing second in last Saturday’s (December 30) Christmas Stages Rally at Croft Circuit in the north of England, where freezing overnight temperatures threw up some tough challenges for the 80-plus starters.

He will contest the Caribbean’s biggest annual motor sport international in the Procter’s Coaches Ford Fiesta, the third overseas entry confirmed for the WRC-1 category, joining the Subaru Impreza WRC S12Bs of Graham Coffey and Rob Swann, who finished eighth and second respectively in Sol RB17. Having not contested a full season in 2015 due to acquiring and subsequently developing the latest Ford Fiesta S2000 purchased from World Rally Championship team M-Sport, the businessman from Leeming Bar near Northallerton now plans to use the ex-Nasser Al-Attiyah ATM-prepared car in both selected rounds of the MSA Odyssey Batteries British Rallycross Championship, starting at Croft on March 6th, as well as the FIA European Rallycross Championship which kicks off at Mettet in Belgium on 14/15th May. Despite the enforced date change to bank holiday Monday January 2nd 2012, Northallerton Automobile Club Ltd has assembled a quality entry for the annual Specsavers Christmas Stages Rally which will take place at Croft Circuit near Darlington.

Having originally had a capacity 90 car entry for the festive event, a number of crews have unfortunately had to withdraw, including last year’s winner Dale Robertson, meaning 70 crews will now contest the 40 stage miles over seven stages in just two weeks time. Read More »
