overall123The fifth running of the usedcarparts Solway Coast Junior Rally presented  29  Junior 1000 crews from all over the UK with some challenging and hugely enjoyable rallying on 7th August 2016. This unique event, organised by Solway Car Club over the military ranges near Kirkcudbright, is a round of all 3 UK Junior 1000 Championships – the Kick Energy Junior 1000 Rally Championship; the Brick & Steel Junior 1000 Ecosse Challenge and the McGrady Insurance ANICC Junior 1000 Rally Challenge Ireland. Fossey Big Step16Jersey’s youngest rally driver, 17-year-old Ed Fossey has become the Next Big Step Award winner for the 2016 rallying season. The title was announced in front of thousands at the Autosport International Motorsport Show at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham at the weekend.

Founded to help develop and assist the country’s young rally stars, The Next Big Step Award provides funding, advice and guidance from some of the sports top professionals and support from tyre manufacturer Yokohama UK. Fossey 2016 plans17-year-old Ed Fossey has had a busy year in 2015. Not only has he had to deal with the usual stresses of A Level studies but he also committed to a full-on season in the Kick Energy Junior 1000 Rally Championship in the UK. Ed has also been competing at home, culminating in a strong showing on the Paperclix Jersey Rally in October, while at the same time raising funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust Jersey Appeal. F1000_PR6_15_CSRWhilst the fight for the 2015 Kick Energy Junior 1000 Rally Championship title was decided back in October at the Peter Lloyd Stages in the favour of Charlie Barlow, but the battle for second in the series was wide open. And it was Welshpool Junior driver Zak Hughes who took victory at the final round last weekend to take the runner up spot in the Championship at the Cadwell Stages Junior Rally. Held at the race circuit in Louth, Lincolnshire, Hughes took his Citroen C1 to a start-to-finish win with co-driver Chris Evans alongside, beating Tom Delaney/Joe Cruttenden’s Suzuki Alto by 19 seconds from 2015 champions Charlie Barlow/Tom Hutchings in their Nissan Micra. F1000_PR5_15_GMRWelshpool Junior driver Zak Hughes took his second Kick Energy Junior 1000 Rally Championship win of the year at last weekend’s Glyn Memorial Junior Rally which was based at Angelsey Race Circuit in North Wales. The tough two day event saw the Citroen C1 pilot lead for all but one of the 14 stages and with co-driver Chris Evans, took maximum points to vault him to second place in the series. Tom Delaney/Joe Cruttenden was their nearest rivals, taking second in their Suzuki Alto with Will Butler and Tom Wood finishing third in their Peugeot 107. Read More »

F1000_PR3_15_PLSCharlie Barlow masters the Peter Lloyd Stages at Pembrey in South Wales to take provisional championship victory.

Win number six for Charlie Barlow at last weekend’s Peter Lloyd Stages was enough for the Nissan Micra pilot to take the provisional* 2015 Kick Energy Junior 1000 Rally Championship with two rounds to go. After electing to miss the previous round in Scotland, Barlow took a convincing victory at the South Wales Pembrey race circuit to make it six victories from six starts, wrapping up the title in the process. The Formula 1000 Rally Club organise their annual media and training event next weekend for their progressive Junior contenders in North Wales.  Now a regular slot on the calendar, the event will see a wide range of activities and training sessions, totally free of charge to allow competitors in this year’s Junior 1000 rally championship to prepare for the inevitable jump to an adult championship in future years.

The weekend kicks off at 10am on Saturday 29th August at the Ranges Motorsport Centre Trawsfynydd where motorsport television experts Special Stage TV along with the motoring press, will coach Junior competitors on media aspects and interview techniques. Read More »

Leading from the very first stage, Welshpool youngster Zak Hughes scored his first victory in the Kick Energy Junior 1000 Rally Championship last weekend as he piloted his Citroen C1 to a dominant win at the Solway Coast Junior Rally. Partnered by co-driver Chris Evans, Hughes was never headed as he settled into third position overall from the outset and took victory with a winning margin of over a minute from his closest rivals Matthew Davies/Claire Williams who took second in their Peugeot 107. Tom Delaney/Joe Cruttenden bagged third, just nine seconds adrift in their Suzuki Alto.

Based at the Kirkcudbright Army Barracks on the West coast of Scotland, the event would provide a challenging day of close competition for the talented 14-17 year old Junior crews. Read More »

Nottinghamshire’s Charlie Barlow continued to dominate the 2015 Kick Energy Junior 1000 Rally Championship this weekend as he bagged a fifth victory in a row at the Midsummer Stages in South Wales. Based at the Caerwent army barracks near Chepstow, the event was the fifth round of the series for 14 to 17 year olds and with co-driver Tom Hutchings alongside, Barlow will enter the second half of the season with a commanding lead in the championship. Tom Delaney/Joe Cruttenden took second in their Suzuki Alto with Will Butler/Tom Wood grabbing the final podium spot in their Peugeot 107.

The name at the top of the Junior leader board would be an ever changing one during the opening three stages of the day with a first blood going to Nissan Micra pilot Barlow. Not content with the runner up spot,  Davies overhauled the on-form Barlow to take a one second lead after the second stage  but would once again have to settle for second at the halfway service. The Kick Energy Junior 1000 Rally Championship receives support from MCR Motorsport Media for remainder of 2015.

The innovative Kick Energy Junior 1000 Rally Championship received a boost this week as media and promotional firm MCR Motorsport Media joined forces with the series to help promote the championship throughout the remainder of 2015.  The championship which was created for 14 to 17 year old progressive Junior drivers, will benefit from on event support and post event promotion from the experienced media team for the remaining rounds of the championship.
