cambrian15 (3)A bumper entry left the start under the grey skies of Llandudno, with 8 forest stages ahead of them before the final tarmac stage around the Great Orme. On 7 of those 8 gravel tests David Bogie & Kevin Rae (Fiesta R5) went fastest taking an emphatic victory of almost a minute. Luke Francis & John Roberts were the only other crew to set fastest stage times and had to fight back from dropping a minute on stage 6, to get 2nd overall. They did this on the final stage pushing Josh Moffett & John Rowan (Fiesta WRC) down to 3rd overall. Read More »

trackrod15 (6)Glorious conditions once again bathed the North Yorkshire Moors for the Trackrod Forest Stages. With two separate events there was plenty of action to catch and in the BTRDA championship Charlie Payne & Carl Williamson (Fiesta) took a comfortable victory of almost two minutes from Damian Cole & Jack Morton (Fiesta WRC). By no means was that the whole story as Stephen Petch & Ian Windress (Fiesta R5+) had gone fastest on the opening stage and the fourth stage to lie half a minute behind Payne, before the final pair of stages. Sadly Staindale would prove the undoing as a throttle stuck wide open forcing Petch in to retirement. With Cole up to a comfortable 2nd overall, the final stage saw a shoot out for 3rd overall. Phil & Simon Pickard (Impreza) held it by just a single second from Pat Naylor & Ian Lawrence (Evo IX) but it was Naylor who came out in 3rd overall as Pickard lost 15 seconds, dropping to 6th overall. woodpecker15 (5)A murky start made way to a pleasant afternoon and the Woodpecker provided a tight finish between the top 3. Luke Francis & John Roberts (Evo IX) took first blood and a 4 second lead on stage 1 before a fastest time for Stephen Petch & Ian Windress (Fiesta R5+) on stage 2 saw them take over the lead into first service. Jamie Anderson & Jon Scott (Lancer WRC) set a stunning time on stage 3, 12 seconds faster than anyone else to climb up to joint 3rd with Francis behind Petch and Charlie Payne & Carl Williamson (Fiesta) before Francis was fastest on stage 4 to regain the lead by just 2 seconds from Anderson and a further 1 ahead of Petch. After 2nd service stage 5 saw Petch go fastest and move ahead of Anderson in to 2nd place. Read More »

Gamble pre-Woodpecker15The Kumho Tyres shod Swift pairing are aiming to take no less than the 1400 honours next weekend, when they will be tackling the Event Signs Woodpecker Stages Rally on Saturday 5th September which they took the 1400 victory on last year.

The event, starting in Ludlow, Mid Wales is a counting round of the BTRDA Kick Start 1400 Rally Championship, of which Mark Gamble & his co-driver; Steve Link last competed in the Plains Rally back in May, where they led the first stage until they unfortunatley retired with a mechanical issue. nickygrist15 (2)After what felt like a long time away we were back to UK rallying for the Nicky Grist Stages and a great field had been assembled. Stephen Petch & Ian Windress (Fiesta R5+) and Charlie Payne & Carl Williamson (Fiesta) were joint fastest through the first stage, with Jamie Anderson & Jon Scott (Lancer WRC) fastest on stage 2, leaving a different look to the top of the standings. A blistering pair of times through stages 3 & 4 saw Paul Bird & Aled Davies (Focus WRC) take the lead which he never let slip. Euan Thorburn & Richard Cooke (Focus WRC) and David Weston & Kirsty Riddick (Impreza WRC) were locked in a close battle for 2nd place. Stage 6 would see Thorburn lose ground despite 2 fastest stage times in the final 4, so it was Weston who took 2nd overall from his fellow Scotsman. Read More »

plains15 (8)The Plains saw Euan Thorburn (Focus WRC) return to the rally he has won for the past two years, now looking for his hat trick co-driven by Richard Cooke. Two fastest stage times out of six was a good return but 23 seconds dropped on stage 3 told in the long run as Thorburn came home 3rd overall, 24 seconds behind the eventual winner. David Weston & Kirsty Riddick (Impreza WRC) also took a brace of fastest stage times which proved to be enough to take victory by just 6 seconds from Josh Moffett & John Rowan (Fiesta WRC) who set fastest stage times on the final two stages to make Weston sweat. somerset15 (5)The final results will show a victory of one minute for David Weston & Kirtsy Riddick (Impreza WRC), combined with 11 stage outright or shared fastest times. After 2 stages Paul Bird & Aled Davies (Focus WRC) along with Hugh Hunter & Andy Marchbank (Impreza WRC) were early retirements so it was Charlie Payne & Carl Williamson (Fiesta) who took up the chase but they then went off on stage 5, so by the mid event it was Luke Francis & John Roberts (Evo IX) who were in 2nd place. Damian Cole & Jack Morton (Focus WRC) were 3rd but closely followed by Jamie Anderson & Jon Scott (Lancer WRC). Through the afternoon stages it was Anderson who made the most progress and lost little time to Weston but gained on both Francis and Cole to take 2nd place. Francis completed the podium a further 29 seconds back with Cole slipping back to 5th on the final stage as Stephen Petch & Ian Windress (Fiesta R5+) grabbed 4th overall on the final stage. SONY DSCHigh winds hit the Lake District for a murky and early start on the Whinlatter Pass and through the opening stages all looked to be going well for local ace Paul Bird, co-driven by Aled Davies, in his Focus WRC. He was fastest on the first 4 stages to take a lead of 15 seconds into Grizedale but Euan Thorburn & Richard Cooke (Focus WRC) took all of that back through Grizedale North before taking a huge 29 seconds out of Bird in Grizedale South. Thorburn then extened his lead on the final two stages to take victory by 46 seconds from Bird. David Weston & Kirsty Riddick (Impreza WRC) completed the top 3 by just 4 seconds after a final stage push, running well down the order, from Stephen Petch & Ian Windress (Fiesta R5+). Read More »
