The newest homologated R5 specification rally car on the market, the Proton Iriz R5, took its third gravel rally win in a row last weekend, as Ollie Mellors stormed to victory at the Malton Forest Rally (3rd November).

Mellors and co-driver Ian Windress, were fastest on each of the events six stages in the Yorkshire forests to take the Thornbridge Brewery backed Proton to a hattrick of wins in the latter half of the season, adding to the Woodpecker Stages and Trackrod Forest Rally triumphs. Read More »

bilham_trackrodBingley rally star Sam Bilham finished off his season in style last weekend as he became the 2016 Maxxis MSA English Rally Champion at the MEM Malton Forest Rally in Yorkshire.

malton15 (7)Glorious sunshine greeted the crews to the North Yorkshire stage through the early morning mist/fog which had started the day. Charlie Payne & Carl Williamson (Fiesta) took an early lead with a time 7 seconds faster than their nearest rivals, through the opening stage. It was a good job as Langdale saw several crews beat the bogey, on both runs, and 7 seconds dropped on Staindale 2 almost saw victory slip away. Stephen Petch & Michael Wilkinson (Fiesta R5) were only 2 seconds behind with Peter Stephenson & Ian Windress (Focus WRC) a further 10 seconds down, completing the podium. Steve Bannister & Dave Robson (Escort MkII) were the first 2WD crew home in 6th overall. Read More »

malton14 (7)Our first visit to the Malton Forest Rally but on familiar stages to us. A relatively small took the stages but there was good variety too. After just missing out on the win in 2013 Stephen Petch & Michael Wilkinson (Fiesta R5+) took victory by 8 seconds, after setting the fastest or joint fastest stage time on 5 of the 6 stages. Charlie Payne & Andrew Roughead (Fiesta) briefly led after setting the fastest time on the 3rd stage, but 2nd overall was not a bad return on a quiet rallying year. Competing the podium, almost a minute back, were Peter Stephenson & Ian Windress (Focus WRC) who had been consistently setting 3rd & 4th fastest stage times all event. Read More »

The final round of the 2012 Motoscope Northern Historic Rally Championship takes place this weekend when competitors will do battle on one of the country’s most popular events.

The various formats of the Roger Albert Clark Rally will see no less than 30 registered MNHRC competitors converge on Ryedale Exhibition and Leisure Centre in Pickering on Friday for the De Lacy Motor Club annual event and although a few titles have already been decided, there’s still a lot to play for in the testing Yorkshire stages.

Most competitors are contesting the three-day Roger Albert Clark Rally with a couple opting for the supporting Peregrine Print Rally which comprises the first half of the event. Read More »

Charlie Payne from Ripon driving a Ford Focus WRC justified his number one seeding by winning the event for the fourth year on the trot. He didn’t dominate the event like he did last year and was three seconds behind eventual runners up Peter Stephenson from Thirsk in his Able sponsored Focus WRC at the halfway mark. This was partly due to a slight off on one stage, put down to his advancing years by co driver Craig Thorley and also to a throttle which stuck wide open on the Gale Rigg stage. Quick times on the last three stages gave him victory by 33 seconds at the end. Close behind in third place was Stephen Petch from Durham in a Mitsubishi Evo. Read More »

Sponsored by MEM PROTON, who prepare Proton S2000 rally cars for the Asia Pacific and IRC championships, this is the 14th year that proprietor Chris Mellors, a former British rally champion, has supported Malton Motor Club events.
