ARR Craib MSA Scottish Rally Championship reveal nominees for the John Horton Star Driver Award shootout.

Organisers of the ARR Craib MSA Scottish Rally Championship are delighted to announce the finalists for the inaugural SRC John Horton Star Driver Award, to be held at Kames Motorsport Centre on 20th September.

The winner of the shoot-out selected by the judging panel will receive an entry to a high-level European event. Entry fee, travel and accommodation costs will be covered and contributions towards fuel and tyres will be also be included courtesy of the championship partners. Last year’s winner Mark McCulloch heads an impressive line-up of more than 60 crews for Saturday’s usedcarparts.co.uk Solway Coast Rally, held at the military ranges at Dundrennan,  near Kirkcudbright.

The Newton Stewart driver, who comes off the back of a top-fifteen finish on the Speyside Stages at the weekend, will face strong competition from, among others, David Hardie – co-driven by Mark’s dad John – and Ian Paterson, who has been runner-up for the past two years.

Others targeting a strong finish include Alistair Inglis, one of the country’s leading exponents of tarmac rallying; 2007 Scottish champions Gary and Gordon Adam; and Ayrshire’s Andrew Gallacher, who was in action on Speyside in the Group N category. Read More »

Mark McCulloch powered his Subaru Impreza to a convincing victory on Saturday’s usedcarparts.co.uk Solway Coast Rally, run over the military ranges at Dundrennan, near Kirkcudbright.

The Newton Stewart-based competitor, co-driven by Elliot Edmondson, finished one minute and fifty-four seconds ahead of Ian Paterson and Jim Haugh, also in a Subaru – who were runners-up for the second year running.

Stranraer’s Jim Sharp, with Amy MacKinnon on the notes, was third, a further seventeen seconds adrift, in a Mitsubishi Lancer EVO 9, while New Abbey’s Richard Dickson and navigator Roger Alcorn brought their Impreza back to the Girstingwood Rally HQ in fourth. Read More »

The Merrick Stages Rally in south-west Scotland has secured a sponsorship deal with leading vehicle tuning specialists, ProTune Remapping.

The agreement has been brokered through Newton Stewart rally ace, Mark McCulloch, who acts as the Irish company’s representative in Scotland.

It is a major boost for the Wigtown-based event, which had been seeking a main sponsor after tyre giant Hankook pulled out of Scottish rallying at the end of last year to concentrate on the DTM touring car series. Read More »
