Already crowned Jordan Road Surfacing BTRDA Rally Series Champion and current British Championship leader Matt Edwards aims to further prove his versatility on next weekend’s (Sept 28th/29th) Trackrod Rally Yorkshire when he contests the Historic Cup.

Edwards, from Llandudno, has driven a high specification Ford Fiesta WRC during his multiple successes in both major modern rally series’ this year but he will be at the wheel of a 40-year old Fiat 131 replica, taking on some of the most experienced drivers of other cars from yesteryears, when he undertakes the North York Moors forest-based event, which starts and finishes in Filey.

Not that the in-form Welshman is any stranger to either the annual Yorkshire extravaganza or rallying ageing cars, having won the Trackrod Historic Cup in 2103 – his first outright ‘historic’ victory – driving an Escort RS1800, then finishing second the following year. Read More »

Dusty conditions greeted the crews as Matt Edwards & Darren Garrod (Fiesta R5) looked to seal the 2018 Gold Star title. They started out well by setting fastest times on all of the opening 3 stages. Luke Francis & John Roberts (Fiesta WRC) were 2nd after setting 2nd fastest times on all 3 stages and in a show of uniform performance, Steve Petch & Michael Wilkinson (Fiesta WRC) were 3rd with 3rd fastest times across the 3 stages. Francis then sent fastest time on stage 4 but still had 27 seconds to make up. Edwards went fastest on the next two stages to hold almost a minutes advantage and could afford to drop 29 seconds on the final stage, as he sealed the title with a round to spare. Read More »

Matt Edwards and co-driver Darren Garrod won a very closely fought Nicky Grist Stages in their Swift Group Ford Fiesta R5, after turning a two second deficit at halfway into a 58 second winning margin at the finish. Victory on the Quinton MC organised event sees them take the lead of the Jordan Road Surfacing BTRDA Rally Series. Read More »

With a return to just the BTRDA championship the Nicky Grist Stages still had a BRC feel as Matt Edwards & Darren Garrod (Fiesta R5) took overall victory by almost a minute. Tom Cave & James Morgan (Mirage) were fastest through the first stage and on the final stage (SS4) before service to lead Edwards by 2 seconds. There was nothing to separate the pair on stage 5 before Edwards took the lead after going fastest by 6 seconds on SS6. Edwards continued with two more fastest stage times to beat Cave by 14 seconds. Cave was disqualified though so Luke Francis & John Roberts (Fiesta WRC) took 2nd place with Rory Young & Allan Cathers (Fiesta R5) completing the podium. Read More »

Thierry Neuville & Nicolas Gilsoul (i20 R5) came back to the Ypres Rally as current leaders of the WRC, hoping for better luck on this year’s event. They took the lead on stage 2 and with a total of 15 fastest or joint fastest stage times they took victory by just over 40 seconds, which pleased the local crowds. Reigning Belgian National Champions Vincent Verschueren & Veronique Hostens (Fabia R5) came home in second place with 4 stage wins but they were under pressure from Kris Princen & Bram Eelbode (Fabia R5) who set fastest stage times on 4 of the last 5 stages, finishing just over 8 seconds behind, taking the final podium place. British Rally Championship ace Matt Edwards set fastest time on each one of the seven stages of the Rallynuts Stages Rally this weekend (14th April) to secure his first ever BTRDA Series win at the Builth Wells based event.

Edwards and co-driver Darren Garrod dominated the event in their Ford Fiesta R5 to win by 40 seconds from Luke Francis and John Roberts in their WRC example.
