20-year-old Ben Barnicoat joins the McLaren GT Driver Academy after impressing in single-seater racing over the past few seasons. Established British sportscar team Strakka Racing has forged a substantial long-term partnership with McLaren GT, the GT race car division of McLaren Group to be its latest customer race team. The Silverstone-based squad will expand to field a minimum four-car assault under the Strakka Racing banner to defend the 2017 Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup in which McLaren GT secured both drivers’ and manufacturers’ titles earlier this year. McLaren Autosport16McLaren GT has announced today at the Autosport International show the formation of the McLaren GT Driver Academy. Alex Fontana (23) from Switzerland and Jersey-born Struan Moore (20) join Northern Irish 2015 McLaren GT Young Driver Andrew Watson (20). All three drivers already hold a wide variety of single seat and GT experience, and the Driver Academy will see them work closely with the team at McLaren GT, including Factory Drivers Rob Bell, Alvaro Parente and Bruno Senna, as they look to establish a successful career in competitive global GT racing.
