McLaren’s 570S GT4 track car makes its China debut this weekend in the first race of the 2017 China GT championship, before an estimated TV and online audience of over 75 million.

The 12-13 May event at Beijing Goldenport Park circuit provides an appropriate showcase for the McLaren 570S GT4, China GT having swiftly become the most influential elite racing contest in China since its launch in 2016. The McLaren 570S GT4 has scored its first win of the season in the opening round of the 2017 British GT Championship at Oulton Park, UK. Customer team track-club, with drivers Adam Balon and Adam MacKay, took overall GT4 victory during the first of two races over the Bank Holiday weekend, as all six examples of the latest GT racing model from McLaren showed pace and reliability.

On the eve of the opening British GT Championship round at Oulton Park, McLaren Automotive has confirmed the extension of the official Safety Car partnership with the SRO-managed series. Throughout the season, a variety of models from the McLaren Sports Series will manage on-track safety and coordination of the bumper grid of GT cars, which will include six examples of the 570S GT4. McLaren Factory Driver Alvaro Parente continued his strong start to the 2017 Pirelli World Challenge season on the streets of Long Beach California, breaking the lap record to score pole position, before claiming a lights-to-flag victory. Close behind the reigning champion, K-PAX Racing’s Bryan Sellers teammate secured the final podium position in the #6 650S GT3.

During qualifying, Parente set a time of 1m 18.883s in the #9 K-PAX Racing 650S GT3, to score pole position by exactly a tenth of a second. Read More »

Factory Driver Alvaro Parente kicked off his Pirelli World Challenge (PWC) title defence in the best possible fashion at the opening round of the season on the streets of St. Petersburg, Florida over the weekend. The Portuguese driver took victory in the opening race of the 2017 campaign, and narrowly missed a podium, finishing P4 in Race 2 for customer team K-PAX Racing in the #9 McLaren 650S GT3. mclaren-howell17Following the completion of the successful development season for the 570S GT4, the latest GT model from McLaren will return to the British GT Championship for 2017.  Strengthening the McLaren presence on the grid will be McLaren Automotive Test Driver Gareth Howell who joins customer team In2Racing, driving one of the team’s two-car assault on the GT4 championship.

In his role as Test Driver, Howell has been involved in the development of the three-tier model range from McLaren – Super Series, Ultimate Series and, most recently, the Sports Series – since he joined the company in 2010. Read More »

20-year-old Ben Barnicoat joins the McLaren GT Driver Academy after impressing in single-seater racing over the past few seasons. Barnicoat is supported by the prestigious Racing Steps Foundation – a private non-profit organisation focused on developing the UK’s greatest young talent in motorsport – and was a part of the McLaren Formula 1 Young Driver Programme from 2010. After progressing through the qualifying sessions to the Top 15 shootout, the Portuguese driver set a blistering laptime of 2m 02.764s driving its #9 McLaren 650S GT3 – just 0.130s off pole. Continuing the rich vein of form, the McLaren 650S GT3 has won a further brace of championship titles in one weekend. Customer teams Darrell Lea and Tekno Autosports claimed the CAMS Australian GT Championship and the Australian Endurance Championship respectively, marking the ninth and tenth titles won by McLaren to date during the 2016 GT season.
