Meirion Evans has his sights set on next year’s Irish Tarmac Rally Championship (ITRC) following a successful return to competition in Ireland on the recent Cork 20 international in his Scan Station-backed Volkswagen Polo GTI R5.

The 26-year old Lampeter-born driver is enjoying one of his best rally seasons this year, having won both the Argyll Rally in Scotland and the Three Shires Rally in England, finished second on the Cork 20 International Rally in Ireland and third on the Rallye Du Boulonnais in France. Read More »

The 2nd running of the Three Shires Stages saw a grandstand finish as Meirion Evans & Jonathan Jackson (Polo R5) took victory by 4s, following a stunning time through the final stage. They had been 4s behind Ollie Mellors & Max Freeman (Iriz R5) going in to that final stage but 7 fastest stage times, plus 2 joint fastest stage times, saw the Welsh crew take the win they gave up on stage 2, to Mellors. The final step on the podium saw an even tighter battle as Melvyn Evans & Mark Glennerster (Fabia R5) took 3rd on countback, after finishing equal with Mark Kelly & Neil Colman (Fiesta R5). 5th place went Robert Swann & Darren Garrod (Impreza WRC) with the time gaps growing down the rest of the top ten. Meirion Evans has scored his first major rally win of his career after taking the overall victory on the Dunoon Presents Argyll Rally in Scotland.

Torrential rain and exceptionally slippery roads contributed to Meirion Evans’ suffering a rare retirement at the weekend, as his trip to the Aarova Rally in Belgium came to an end on stage four.

The 25-year old Welshman was eager to start his first rally since February, and despite being out of The Scan Station-backed Volkswagen Polo GTI R5 for such a long time his split times, set against the very best local drivers, were very good. Read More »

Meirion Evans hasn’t contested a rally since the beginning of February, thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic putting the brakes on motorsport events around the world. But his unplanned long and enforced break will come to an end later this month, when he contests the Aarova Rally in Belgium on Sunday 11 October.

Meirion Evans is aiming to continue his good start to the Irish Tarmac Rally Championship next weekend, when he contests the West Cork Rally (14/15 March) in The Scan Station-backed Volkswagen Polo GTI R5.

It will only be the second time that the 24-year old Welshman has contested the event. Last year an early fuel pump problem with his Hyundai i20 R5 forced him to superally, where he went on to set some excellent stage times with a flying and trouble-free run on day two. Read More »
